Frozen 2008 NFL Mock

Special to Thoughts from the Dark Side
Greetings Raider Nation from the Great White North: (no, not Orchard Park, but Canada ). Welcome to my ΔϊFrozenΔω NFL 2008 Mock Draft (only edition) from a huge Raider fan living in Canada .
Let me get this off my chest right away...... DMC,DMC,DMC
So, why DMC and not address the Defense? (Let me first preface, I don't believe Chris Long is "all that", look at the competition he played against in the AC. I'd sooner consider Gholston, Dorsey, or Ellis.) Let's face it Nation,¬ you are also emotionally attached to C.Long...not a good thing when drafting in the first round.
Ok...before you say "this Canuck has taken to many pucks to the head" for not even considering Howie's Son, letΔτs look at my reasons behind Run DMC at the 4 Spot. Quite simply, DMC will make Russell's transition a whole lot easier. Kiffin wanted Quinn to run his offence last year (it's a fact). Well, with DMC in the backfield and Miller at TE, he can run a hybrid west-coast along with the deep ball that Walker/Carter should bring.
Davis will select Run DMC, and pay him between 15-25M to sign. With no 2nd/3rd rounders to select, Davis will have the $$$ to pay DMC nicely.
DMC does 3 things to the Raiders Offense:
1. Multi-Dimensional capabilities that allow Jamarcus time/space.
2. Gives Kiffin a hybrid west-coast/down field type offensive
3. Supports the dual-back theory. (thunder-lighting / Bush-DMC)
Finally, the 4th and 6th pick will be on the "O"-Line, while they may always be a trade for a 2nd or 3rd and select a defensive player.
Here's my Frozen Mock Draft:
(first 10 picks w/explanations and without potential trades)
1. ¬¬¬¬ Miami Dolphins
OT¬¬¬ Jake Long~ Michigan
The Dolphins are looking to rebuild their team in the trenches. Long provides an anchor for the offensive line.
2¬¬¬¬¬ St. Louis Rams
DE¬¬¬ Chris Long~ Virginia
Long will excel playing opposite Leonard Little. Despite all the talk of Long's 3-4 experience, his best fit may be as a 4-3 defensive end.
3¬¬¬¬¬ Atlanta Falcons
QB¬¬¬ Matt Ryan~ Boston College
The Falcons are convinced he is a franchise quarterback, and above all, a great citizen. This will be the "owners" demand pick!!!!
**4¬¬ Oakland Raiders
RB¬¬¬ Darren McFadden~ Arkansas
A much needed playmaker to play alongside JaMarcus Russell.
5¬¬¬¬¬ Kansas City Chiefs (another reason to select DMAC at 4)
OT¬¬¬ Ryan Clady~ Boise St
A pure need pick for an offensive line in dire need of an upgrade.
6¬¬¬¬¬ New York Jets
DE¬¬¬ Vernon Gholston~ Ohio St (could be Ryan too)
The Jets improve their pass rush with the draft's top 3-4 OLB prospect.
7¬¬¬¬¬ New England Patriots
CB¬¬¬ Leodis McKelvin~ Troy
After the departures of Asante Samuel and Randall Gay, the Patriots take the #1 corner off the board.
8¬¬¬¬¬ Baltimore Ravens
QB¬¬¬ Glen Dorsey ~ LSU¬ (steal "if" he 100% healthy)
(he will spend the longest time in the "green room" ...hope his girlfriend is better looking than Quinn's) The Ravens look to strengthen the interior of the defense.....Lewis & company are getting long in the tooth.
9¬¬¬¬¬ Cincinnati Bengals
DT¬¬¬ Sedrick Ellis~USC
Dire help is needed on defense, Eliis will make a difference.
10¬¬¬¬ New Orleans Saints
OLB¬¬ Keith Rivers~USC
An athletic linebacker to pair with recently acquired MLB Jonathan Vilma.
11¬¬¬¬ Buffalo Bills
DE¬¬¬ Derrick Harvey~ Florida
12¬¬¬¬ Denver Broncos¬ (reallyΔΆdo we care J)
WR¬¬¬ Desean Jackson~ Cal
13¬¬¬¬ Carolina Panthers
DE¬¬¬ Phillip Merling~Clemson
14¬¬¬¬ Chicago Bears
OT¬¬¬ Christopher Williams~Vanderbilt
15¬¬¬¬ Detroit Lions
RB¬¬¬ Rashard Mendenhall~ Illinois
16¬¬¬¬ Arizona Cardinals
CB¬¬¬ Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie~ Tennessee
17¬¬¬¬ Minnesota Vikings
DE¬¬¬ Quentin Groves~Auburn
18¬¬¬¬ Houston Texans
CB¬¬¬ Mike Jenkins~ South Florida
19¬¬¬¬ Philadelphia Eagles
OT¬¬¬ Jeffrey Otah~Pitt
20¬¬¬¬ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
RB¬¬¬ Jonathan Stewart~ Oregon
21¬¬¬¬ Washington Redskins
WR¬¬¬ Limas Sweed~ Texas
22¬¬¬¬ Dallas Cowboys
CB¬¬¬ Aqib Talib~ Kansas
23¬¬¬¬ Pittsburgh Steelers
G¬¬¬¬¬ Branden Albert~ Virginia
24¬¬¬¬ Tennessee Titans
DT¬¬¬ Trevor Laws~Notre Dame
25¬¬¬¬ Seattle Seahawks
S¬¬¬¬¬ Kenny Phillips~ Miami
26¬¬¬¬ Jacksonville Jaguars
WR¬¬¬ Early Doucet~LSU
27¬¬¬¬ San Diego Chargers (again,.ΔΆdo we care J)
DT¬¬¬ Kentwan Balmer~ N Carolina
28¬¬¬¬ Dallas Cowboys
WR¬¬¬ Malcolm Kelly~ Oklahoma
29¬¬¬¬ San Francisco 49ers
WR¬¬¬ Andre Caldwell~ Florida
30¬¬¬¬ Green Bay Packers
CB¬¬¬ Tracy Porter~ Indiana
31¬¬¬¬ New York Giants
ILB¬¬¬ Dan Connor~Penn St
Let me know what you think ( good, bad or otherwise )

I disagree with you on C. Long. I think he will be a good player in the NFL except not in Oakland. He will have to much pressure with the Raiders because of the legacy his dad left.
We need defensive line help not a RB(McFadden). We have thunder and lightning with Bush & Fargas. RB position is set.

Fargas gave us our first 1000 yard season since we were a playoff team, and teams geared up to stop the run on us. He works his ass off and is the model teamate. If he's not our #1 back he's definately a guy that is a number two behind bush, and he's the type of team guy that will be willing to be a number #2. We couldn't stop the run last year and DMac sure isn't gonna stop the run. Assuming we could even get a second round pick (highly doubtful with our trade bait unless we trade Huff or Burgess which will further weaken our defense) your not gonna find a run stuffer (William Joseph was a first rounder, Kalimba a second rounder). Also if we do get a second or third rounder, we have to use it to protect Jamarcus. Sims is gone Kwame is in which if healthy and Kwame get's back to form could be an upgrade. But is Paul Mcq really our other starting OT? If so we at least need some more depth at OT. Long, Long, and Dorsey are the first three picks, hope Al takes Ellis because Gholston can't stop the run either.

i agree with you inone, no doubt that mcfadden is going to be a true athlete for any team he plays. might i also add that mcfumbler fumbled 23 times in 3 years. yes tiki barber learned to keep the ball high up on his chest in order to protect that ball better, and it worked... but i mean, its a huge risk to get darren 4th overall. I do agree our offense would be pretty nice with mcfadden+bush+fargas combo, but we need to feed the issues at hand! I do disagree with you there inone about gholston... because he can always develop on his skill to stop the run better. with only collage coaching, rob ryan will develop this beast of a DE into somethin terrible.. so good in fact that i say if we get him, we could in fact be lookin at another lawrence taylor.

I totally agree, McFadden would look great in silver and black but we just can't take him when we much bigger needs on our line. Sure an offensive playmaker would be great, but who's to say Bush won't return to form and provide us that. Anyway. If you guys want to kill some offseason time this new football game is pretty sweet, but the new season starts soon, so come in and create a player, it's all free and the new season should be fun.
(edited to remove link) **The game is called goal line blitz** (end edit)

And Adrian you are absolutely wrong with this idea you have about pressure because of Chris' dads legacy. He has never felt pressure but rather it has driven him. That drive makes him great. Also, Oakland is not New York and this isn't the Yankees. The Nation embraces it's players and Al Davis is loyal to his legends. Chris Long will have no pressure whatsoever. He will be given the benefit of the doubt in every way. You have it backwards completely.

Just say no to DMC. The NFL has recently become more pass-oriented. Coincidently, the #1 rushing team last year also was the #1 team at stopping the run: the Minnesota Vikequeens. They didn't even make it to the postseason. If you want to compliment JaMarcus Russell, get him some protection and find some consistent WRs. That said, there are no WRs worthy a top 10 pick, not a OL that fits Tom Cable's scheme. The best way to go, IMO, is DL: C. Long, Dorsey, or Gholston.

LDizzle we embrace players that kick ass, the minute they F*** up we want them out and that has been Al's mentality also. The Nation and Al will expect C. Long to be another Howie Long, the toughness he brought and the legacy he left to the Raiders. C. Long will have a lot of pressure. I agree with RaiderAlex909, what world are u living in. What a pendejo.

Hello from Afghanistan,
RB is set. However, McFadden could be split out as a threat with a mismatch because he has speed and we have enough other threats in place - if we had nothing then McFadden would be nothing. Bush in NO found that out. If Coach Kif believes McFadden adds enough scoring then the adjustments we've done to the D-Line are fine already because we then have enough scoring forcing opponents to pass on our secondary. C.Long has had pressure all his life - it will escalate in Oakland but it depends on how he handles it. Long Sr. wasn't as tough as he's portrayed - I remember distinctly and I'm a fan of his but not the hardcore Chevy 4X4 commercial - Tough Guy pick Howie he's portrayed as today. C.Long would be my pick then possibly McFadden if Coach Kif is a believer! Despite their ego's and mistakes - Al's a good Owner, Kif is a good coach but...Our entire future is on Russel's head anyway....Assess McFadden's off-field brain-dead mistakes to ensure it won't affect our on field success. Gholston is growing on me but the operative word is "Develop" Scouts always think they can in every sport but how often do they actually develop someone? Not perception like Eli Manning is great now but really develop the dreaded "P" word Potential???

Look guys we have Bush and Fargas anyone of the other four top guys we help us out immensely! I know some of you all are in love with DMC but he's simply not the best choice with the need we have on both lines.

Tony,
Awesome! I could care less about the majority of it cause its subjective and we will all be VERY wrong in the end, but great pick at #4. Don't follow the sheep!! Stick to those guns and fire away!!
Al's Mandate is McFadden!!

You help Jamarcus transition in the nfl with a strong running game which is already in place without Mcfadden, and a strong defense who is able to create turnovers giving Russel and the offense a short field. Not to mention a defense that will get the opposing offense off the field so Russel has more opportunities. We already have a dynamic duo in fargas and bush.

Great job Tony! I hope you're wrong about the order of the top four, but other than that it was a good mock.
