Raider X mocks the NFL Draft

Who is Raider X?

The mocking of the draft continues here on Thoughts from the Dark Side. Today, its Raider X’s turn to laugh and point at the teams, er uh create a mock draft. The response that we have gotten to this project has been incredible. Raider X brings his trademark wit and humor to this mock, and unlike the rest of us he steps up and predicts some trades. Check out the Raiders selection, I am liking these.

1 - Miami Dolphins, OT Jake Long Michigan.  Miami gets stuck with this selection because there is no defined player hiearchy to this draft so no one wants to move up this far.  Plus Bill Parcells has burned more bridges than the Vietcong and no one is going to want to deal with him.

2 - Stl. Rams, DT Glenn Dorsey LSU. What? a week ago, I said this is where Chris Long is going but the door is open for Dorsey to go here, I think while Long and moving Adam Carriker would be a good move, taking Dorsey and keeping Carriker is a stronger move for their line.  Dorsey has gone out of his way to show he is healthy.

3- Atlanta Falcons, QB Matt Ryan Boston College - Not the best value by any means.  Ryan would have been the 3rd QB (Behind JRuss and Quinn) taken in 07 and the 4th one (Young, Leinart, Cutler) taken in 06 based on his play and talents.  Unfortunately the draft is a dog eat dog event and the Falcons needing to sniff around a QB due to the antics of Paul Crewe… er, Michael Vick.

4- THE Oakland Raiders, DE Chris Long Virginia.  I know a week ago I said that Long “is the only player guaranteed to go into the top 3″ but A, Things change.  B, I don’t have inside info and C, I have the clarevoyance of Stevie Wonder.  Long fits right in at RDE with the strength and power to go against the LT’s of the league with having a pedigree, work ethic and talent that will make him the right fit.

5 - New England Patriots - via trade with Kansas City - DE/OLB Vernon Gholston Ohio State.  KC always looks to trade down a little bit because their ownership is cheap or thrifty depending on how you look at it and Emperor Belicheck is armed with multiple picks and a strong disdain for former pupil Darth Mangini.  NE’s LB core outside of Adalius Thomas gives the Raiders 02 team a run for their money in the age dept.

6 - New York Jets - RB Darren McFadden Arkansas - This pick should make former Raiders coach Bill Callahan happy or at least not feeling dumb and defensive coaches in the AFC Least pretty mad.  McFadden teaming with Thomas Jones is a great situation for both parties. He doesn’t have to carry the load and will get ample touches because he might just have the best throwing arm on the Jets.

7 - Kansas City Chiefs - OT Brandon Albert UVA - This guy maybe talented but he’s hasn’t played OT that much. I’d rather have Claddy at this point but hey, who picks better than Carl Peterson?  (Everyone but Dwight Clark I know) KC is currently sporting Jordan Black and Damian McIntosh at OT and due to a lack of planning by Peterson, they had no one being groomed behind Willie Roaf, Will Shields, Casey Weigmann, and John Welbourn and now have the worst line in football.

8 - Baltimore Ravens - DE/OLB Derrick Harvey Florida - They have 2 young decent OTs and its way to early to get a QB.  They need someone to maybe replace or play opposite of Terrell Suggs

9 - Cincinnati Bengals - DT Sedrick Ellis USC - It’s a good thing the Bengals wear orange because you couldn’t tell if they had any DT’s out there last year or not because they were pretty invisible.

10 - New Orelans Saints - OLB Keith Rivers USC - The Saints have needed a CB since they traded that Eric Allen guy.  I know that, you know that, everyone knows that.  However, they haven’t pulled the trigger and have always signed or traded for mid-range corners like Randal Gay, Jason Craft, Jason David, and Mike McKenzie.

11 - Toronto Argonauts er, Buffalo Bills - CB Dominique-Rogers-Cromartie-Asomugha-Bailey-Samuel Tenn. St. - Again, not a huge
fan of any of the corners. Maybe it’s because I will go on the killing spree if the Raiders chose one on day one but I don’t think this is an outstanding position.. DRC had great workouts and the size that Buffalo seems to prefer in CBs.

12 - The Donkeys - Chris Williams OT Vandy - Denver needs a LT and Williams is athletic and talented enough to entice the Great Dictator.  Plus he played with Cutler at Vandy so you know that would make the QB happy.  Left tackle is a big need for them. Epecially now with having to face Chris Long and Derrick Burgess at DE twice a year P-).

13 - Carolina Panthers - OT Ryan Claddy - That college that plays on blue turf and produced free agency superstar (his words, not mine) Chris Carr-  I think Claddy would be a decent pick for the Panthers

14 - Chicago Bears - Rashard Mendenhall RB - Cedric Benson sucks, the end.

15 - Detroit Lions - WR….. just kidding, maybe, OT - Jeff Otah Pitt. Their OT’s suck

16 - Arizona Cardinals - RB Felix Jones - Arkansas. Just think Faster Willie Parker.

17 - Kansas City Chiefs - *Trade* W/ Minnesota involving Jared Allen - Chiefs select Brian Brohm QB Louisville - a bit high but they need a QB badly.

18 - Houston Texans - OT Gosdar Cherulis BC - They need blocking, duh.

19 - Philadelphia Eagles - WR Devin Thomas Michigan St. - Their receiving core has lacked a true gamebreaker since that That One guy was doing situps in his driveway.

20 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Mike Jenkins CB South Florida - With Brian Kelly finally gone and Rhonde Barber being one step closer to following his annoying twin brother in retirement, Tampa opts to refill the position with the talented Jenkins

21 - Washington Redskins - WR Limas Sweed Texas - Danny Warbucks needs a WR over 5′8 to compliment his team.  Sweed might be the most talented WR this year.

22 - Dallas Cowboys - CB Aquib Talib Kansas - Obviously Duh-bul Jay isn’t afraid of potheads because of his interest in Pacman.

23 - Pittsburgh Steelers - DE Calais Campbell Miami - Aaron Smith is aging and Campbell is talented despite his off senior season and poor workouts.

24 - Tennessee - Desean Jackson WR Cal. - Vince Young needs a target and playmaker.

25 - Seattle Seahawks - RB Jonathan Stewart Oregon - They replace Alexander with a clone, bum foot and all.

26 - Jacksonville Jaguars - DE Phillip Merling Clemson - ehh who cares at this point?

27 - NY Jets *Trade* W/ San Diego Chargers QB Joe Flacco Deleware - Jets need to jump up past Miami to get their choice of QB between Chad Henne and Joe Flacco.

28 - Cincinatti Bengals - *Trade* W/Dallas Cowboys for WR Chad Johnson - Bengals select DT Kentwan Palmer UNC Cincy still needed to add another DT to the rotation and need to be rid of Ocho Cancero.

29 - San Francisco Niners - WR James Hardy Indiana - They need any WR help they can get.

30 - Atlanta Falcons - *Trade W/ Green Bay Packers* Falcons select OT Sam Baker USC - Falcons need to and have the ammo to leapfrog the Rams to land OT they need.

31 - New England Patriots - Cameraman Matt Walsh Hawaii

32 - New York Giants - S Kenny Phillips Miami - Champs need to replace that Gibril Wilson fella.

Thank Al that’s over with. I hate doing mock drafts for anyone but the Raiders.  Guess what my next post will be.

Clairvoyance and this should help X.

I like the C. Long deal! Yeah!

What can be done to get 85 from the Bengals? Unlike the like of #18, #85 always plays hard and we could really use him right about now unless Walker’s health holds out.

    Just Win Baby!

I’m a Packer fan. There is no way they are going to trade away their first round draft pick unless it was to trade up. Pretty much any time isn’t going to trade so that they get no first round pick.

Mean’t to type “team” not “time”

I think we could trade #4, CB Fabian Washington and DT Gerard Warren to the Bengals for #9 & Ocho Cinco.

It would be better for them to get 2 quality players(CB Fabian Washington & DT Gerard Warren) in return plus the #4 then #22nd or #28 from Dallas for Ocho Cinco?

So TC are you saying I could be wrong with one of my picks?? As you can tell by about pick 17 I was really starting to hate doing a mock. While I follow the draft and college football a bit harder than say Patrick, I don’t pretend to be a draftnik. One of my favorite laughs I get each year is when some guy on a message board, usually kffl.com, says they have so and so as the 5th ranked RB.
Nice to see the NFC North fans btw.

Hell no i dont want Chad Johnson on the thw Raiders he would turn out to be another Randy Moss, plus he’s 30 or 31. I’d rather draft a receiver so he can build chemistry with JaMarcus Russell

Great job Raider X! You could definitely tell you were becoming disinterested with the Jacksonville pick when you said, “who cares at this point?” LOL, not too many Raider fans I’m sure.

“CB Dominique-Rogers-Cromartie-Asomugha-Bailey-Samuel” Hahaha that is hillarious. Now let’s argue over which corners names should have been used in this joke. Discuss.

Good insight on Jones thinking Talib would be worth the risk. NFLis getting a bit too PC but if he’s a Cowboy or Pat they’ll ignore what he does unless it gets beyond their ability to contain it.

He’s the best CB out there from what he’s shown on film for coming out of a zone to close on the ball.

You are high! Boldwin maybe - never ocho cinco. The white house is closed down and Pacman will be enough for Hill to watch with Tank in the fold

I disagree with fellow Packer fan, TC, and think that Thompson trading out of the first is highly possible… especially if there are numerous CBs, Ss, TEs, and Ts that he likes about equally, where he feels that he will get the same value further back and another pick too. I’d love to have Atl’s 2d and 3d rounders for our 1st.

TT is ahead of the curve in realizing that the famous “pick value chart” weights high picks too much, such that trading down is the way to go.
