Oakland Raiders: Breaking NEWS!
Glenn Dorsey hoists the Sears Trophy
11:00 AM PST
Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that even though the Rams have not made a firm decision on who they'll select with their first pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, Glenn Dorsey, DT from LSU, is the likely choice. If the Rams were to select Dorsey, that would leave only the Falcons in the way of Chris Long coming to Oakland with the fourth pick of the draft.
Although the Rams are not decided, Thomas says that they are "expected to zero in on its pick at No. 2 overall by Friday." If they were to release the news on Friday, it's highly likely that Falcons, Raiders, and other teams' personnel departments will get no sleep the night before the draft, with the expected attempts to trade with the Falcons and/or Raiders.
The Rams are looking at three players as of right now; Dorsey, Long, and Gholston in that order. With whomever the Rams decide, they'll have to wait until they turn in their index card on Saturday before they can begin negotiating a contract with their first pick. That will add an extra kink to the anticipation for at least the following six teams.
There have also been reports that the Rams could trade out of the spot, but Thomas reports, "team sources saying no phone calls came from other clubs regarding a potential deal (Wednesday)." So if someone is planning on making an offer to the Rams for the number two pick, they're still keeping it a secret.
If the Rams draft Dorsey, the Falcons will look other places for their first pick. It's been reported that if the Rams pick Long, the Falcons would select Dorsey, but if he's already gone they may select QB Matt Ryan from Boston College. Over the past few days, Brian Brohm from Louisville has begun to come up as the Falcons' choice in the first round. The Falcons could still opt to move back in the draft in a trade, but no word yet if they've received any offers.
Stay tuned! As we find out, we'll be keeping you updated from now until the end of the draft.

First!
So you don't know anything for sure???
I saw that Breaking News headline and expected we're getting Long but now I don't know if this is any different than I already thought. At least a Yam Writer is making us have hope.
Just Long Baby!

I'm afraid that 'for sure' happens like when the Dolphins had a press conference with Jake Long yesterday. That was when everyone reporting was SURE of the first pick. LOL!
Thomas is a pretty decent reporter and seems to have a pretty good feel for the Rams (i.e. - source). I'm confident that what he's writing is probably closer to what the actual outcome will be. If the Rams draft Dorsey, barring a trade, the Raiders will be able to select between Gholston, McFadden, and Long. They could also trade back, so not a bad dilemma to be in.

If Dorsey goes #2 to the Rams then we will have the option of drafting Mcfadden, Long, or Gholson. But i believe Atlanta would trade with Kansas City and they will take DE Long. That leaves us with 3 options. 1) Stay put and draft either Mcfadden or Gholston 2) Trade down with the Jets and pick up a 3rd round pick. They select Mcfadden. We are still in great position to pick either Sedrick Ellis or Vernon Gholston at #6. We can't lose between 1-6, and would still get an elite prospect plus a pick. 3) Blockbuster trade with the Cowboys. If Dorsey goes 2nd overall then there will be a battle for the 3rd pick between Kansas City & Jets. We will see who wants their coveted prospect the most. Chris Long for Kanssas City or Mcfadden for the Jets. We will see come Saturday.

This could also be a smokescreen to bait Atlanta into swapping picks knowing that Atlanta wants Dorsey. The safest thing for the Rams front office to say right now is that they want Dorsey because they know Atlanta wants him. I hope this is true though and I hope they don't trade the pick because that means the odds are REALLY good that C Long falls to the Raiders at that point. And the prophecy becomes reality.
Anyone see Floyd Reese, Mark Shitbreth, Marcelus Wiley and Todd McShay playing the parts of AD, Kiffin, Ryan, and Raiders director of scouting on ESPN On The Clock? Pretty comical. They certainly were having a good time with it. I think McShay has it right though when he lists the Raiders board at C Long, Dorsey, McFadden. Although it is hard to say whether Gholston may be higher than McFadden. Both have the athleticism that AD likes just on different sides of the ball.

This is where the fun and gamesmanship begins. I get the feeling that with the fluid draft board this year there will be some trades.

I hope DE Chris Long is the pick to the Rams because this would be a better situation for the Raiders. Atlanta would definetly pick Dorsey at #3 and wouldn't trade but if they don't, we would definetly pick Dorsey at #4. As long as we stay within 6 we are good. I'd rather draft at 6 and get an extra pick. It's more value drafting at 6.

RaiderKev that trade scenario with KC scares me and I would probably go on a killing spree in KC if it happened. Make sure you watch the news after the draft if that came to pass. That would be the 3rd time the Raiders got screwed by a team trading up ahead of them at the last minute. Rams jumped up and got Orlando Pace and we were stuck with Darryl Russel and then Indy jumped up and got Bob Sanders and we were stuck with Jake Grove. This one would burn the most because it would be the hated Chiefs and it would be Howie's son.
I thanked the Chiefs for trading Jared Allen but now I am not so sure it was a good thing.

Hopefully Atlanta wants Ryan. I'd be happy with Dorsey, but would prefer Long. I'd evan like Ellis, but don't think they'll spend a #4 on him. I wonder how reducing the pick time from 15 to 10 minutes will impact last minute trades. I found an interesting article by our ex GM, Lombardi, on how he would deal with the draft. Check out his idea about calling people when you have no intention of making a trade just to tie up their phone line.
P.S. He has a stiffie for McFadden. I'm glad he's gone.

L Dizzle if u think Kansas City is gonna sit back and let Chris Long fall to the Raiders at #4 your kidding yourself. We better hope Chris Long goes to the Rams cuz we still won't get him at #4. Kansas City just traded DE Jared Allen and he would definetly be replaced by DE Chris Long. Chris Long is #1 now on the Chiefs board. Atlanta will trade down in a heartbeat if Dorsey is gone at #2. Atlanta could still draft the QB if they chose to at #5. We better be clever with our pick cuz Atlanta could trade out of the #5 pick to say a team like the Patriots? This pick has Vernon Gholston all over it. We could be stuck with Mcfadden, Sedrick Ellis, or a trade with Dallas. Either way it goes, we will be alright.

Good job raider Kev. If we could get an extra pick and get Gholston that would be pretty huge, and it's actually realistic.

If the Raiders want McFadden then they will trade down, and if they want Dorsey or long then they will use the pick. Here is why, McFadden has R. Bush written all over him, except he is not as good and can't jump! In order to make good use of this type of player you need a spread offence, ie not a zone or cut block system like the Raiders, in order for the fast and fragile back to eat up yards. Only a few teams have this type of quality line such as the Colts, Pats, Cowboys, and Jags, but they won't pick for a very long time because they are good! This is the point and very likely Al Davis's dream scenario, the Raiders trade way down in the first round once the Rams take Dorsey and Falcons take Long (Ryan is terrible, they will wait until an actual QB caliber player is available, is Ryan really better than Leinart, No!@) and the Raiders will get McFadden and either a second or third round pick. Do I like McFadden, no, but do I see this happening, yes. I hope I am not the only one praying to God that we get Dorsey.

Hey monkey ur name says it all how is Dmac lik Reggie Bush he's alot bigger than him first of all and sure he can catch the ball similar to Bush but he's alot more physical he runs between guards he dosent bounce everything to the outside. I dont want the Raiders to take him but u can compare Dmac to Bush., Idiot the Falcons wont pick Chris Long they dont need a DE they have 3 solid DE's John Abraham(pro bowler) Jamaal Anderson(top 10 draft pick) Chauncey Davis(pretty good back-up) they need 2 much help to take a guy where they have solid starters in the position. If they dont trade down they'll take Matt Ryan!
Go RAIDERS!!!

anyone to stop the run and add pressure would be great... because as i've said and many others as well.. what good is an allstar D-backfield if we dont have a D-line, period.

It all starts up front on both sides of the ball.

I think raiders will trade with baltimore so they can take ryan and we can pick elliss and still get a 2nd or 3rd round pick. That way we can pick up an OT with that pick.

It seems most of us Raiders fans are in agreement that we're going to get some much needed help with either Dorsey, Long, Gholston, MacFadden, Ellis and even Clady. I hope (PAT SAYS) is correct and that they don't take Long, as many of us want "baby howie" to become a Raider and wear number 75 for years to come. Hopefully, he'll be a future HOF'er as his dad. I do fear the Chief's, with all their picks, working out a trade with Atlanta and if "baby howie" went to them that would be horrible. If it was Denver with all those picks, then for sure the Shana, who hates AD with a passion, would definately move up and take "baby howie" just to stick it to Al. I feel, as others do, that we need more picks, so moving down to 6 or 7 and getting an additional 3rd rounder would be great. Also, I'm hoping that we can trade Seabass, who loses at least 2 games every year as he can't kick under pressure situations, along with Jake, Stu, Fabian or Sanford (not both) and of course Jordan, can be traded for other picks that we strictly us on D-line and O-line are biggest areas of need. We could go 9-7 to as high as 11-5 this year. GO RAIDERS!

It's probably a ploy because these GMS are making too much bread to let info slip. But they would be wise to take Dorsey unless that concerned about health, I doubt it. He is the best player. He got double and even triple teamed. He still stopped the run and to the quarterback. He is also a team leader, full of passion, who will play hurt. And he did this in the SEC He won't fall to us cuz Atlanta will snatch him. But just to make sure we get Clong what about burgess and #4 for #2 and Rams second round pick? I love burgess but Edwards can get after the qb and Richardson is a better run stopper than Burgess, plus burgess is getting up there as well as complaining about money which we aint got any more of....

I wouldnt mind the scenario inonewordraiders is suggesting we trade Burgess and our #4 pick for their #2 pick and their 2nd round pick. But if we move up to #2 then i would say lets take Glenn Dorsey! But i doubt that the Raiders trade up, if anything attempt to trade down!
GO RAIDERS!!!
