Answers to my Oakland Raiders pre-draft 20 questions
On 21 April I asked 20 questions that would be answered come draft day. Now, Darren McFadden, Tyvon Branch, and company have become Raiders. The initial post-draft combination of relief, euphoria, and disbelief has wained, with attention turning towards how these guys will do once they see the field.
1) Will the Raiders stay put at #4?
Yes, they stayed put.
2) Will the Raiders end up with more than the four selections they currently hold?
The Raiders shipped Fabian Washington out to add another pick.
3) Can the Raider Nation unify behind the pick?
The Raider Nation is starting to come together behind Darren McFadden.
4) Will the second guessing of the Raiders’ move start before the Chiefs hand in their selection?
The second guessing started before it was announced that the Chiefs were on the clock.
5) Who will be the prospect who goes into freefall?
There were no green room darlings this year.
6) With the over/under on Lane Kiffin’s use of the word Excited in various forms at 15, will it be over or under?
Without going back and counting, I am thinking it clocked in at under.
7) In which round will Al pick his obligatory cornerback?
With the Raiders second selection which was in the fourth round, they traded up to draft Tyvon Branch.
Will Nancy Gay have a positive thing to say about the Raider draft?
I haven’t looked. I am not a masochist.
9) Who will be shipped out from the current team?
Fabian Washington was traded on draft day, and Dominic Rhodes was released shortly thereafter.
10) Will I score with a Raiderette after the draft party? (I can dream, right?)
No, but got a picture taken with a couple of beautiful Raiderettes.
11) What will OakFoSho’s next tagline be?
“Unleash Cerebus!”
12) Who will be the pick that sends everyone to google to find out just who he is?
Chaz Schilens had me all over the web looking for info.
13) Will any of those odd-ball draft day rumors come true?
Al Davis was after Darren McFadden.
14) Who will have more picks right me, Dizzle, Bill (first round), Pat T, OakFoSho, Tony from the North, Rob, Raider X, or Mel?
Too tired to figure it out tonight. I got Matt Ryan to ATL, Gholston to the Jets, and Dominique Rogers-Cromarte to the Cards right.
15) Will the top pick be in camp on time?
We can hope.
16) Will the Raiders get another steal on a player plummeting down the draft board?
No
17) Will Raider fans boo the top pick?
About half of them did.
18) Can Al pass on McFadden?
McFadden is now in Silver and Black.
19) Why is gas $3.71 a gallon?
A combination of a multitude of factors.
20) Who will the Raiders add on 4-26-08?
Darren McFadden was the only first day pick.

For the record,
I got 4 of the first six picks, including the most important one (D-Mac), and I got two more in the 20s for a total of 6. I’d say that a pretty decent mock especially concidering all the trades and reaches and lack of WR picks etc etc. What a weird 1st round. No WRs and a record number of OTs.

What did we get in return for two quality players in Rhodes and Washington? A div 1AA WR that hopefully doesnt suck.
Oh well we were in the same boat last year with Moss.
Rhodes will get picked up soon and Washington should fit well in Baltimores D.
I am thinking that the Raiders didn’t have many suitors for trades. They probably shopped a bunch of player including the aforementioned and couldnt get any team to bite.
I cant imagine any team now wanting to trade for Jordan. Who could be cut before June 1. So he will also be a casualty of the draft.
Still lots of time until the season but cant wait until the first preseason game to see how the pieces start fitting.
Russell pitch left to McFadden. Russell deep to Carter. TOUCH DOWN RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDERS!

Darren Mcfadden was the right pick. Either him or Dorsey was the right pick I believe. I believe Mcfadden to be better value cuz we now have that “Bo Jackson” type of back in Oakland again. It’s exciting and it was a long-term pick that we can watch grow with Qb Jamarcus Russell for years to come. I feel real good about this pick because I feel we’ll be alot more stable on offense this year. I feel our defense is good enough, especially with the defensive free agents we acquired to do well. We had an underachieving year but I think we will bounce back this year. We still have holes at DE, and Linebacker, but we’ll get it taken care of next year.

Patrick, love the picture. You appear to have very long arms. I think it’s called a measurable by NFL scouts.

7. In which round will Al Davis pick his obligatory cornerback?
Tyvon Branch was actually a safety playing out of position at corner. He was drafted to play back up safety, gunner, and kick returner. He seems to be the heir apparent to Jarrod Cooper and is very similar to him having all his strengths, but has a lot more speed and could eventually see the field on defense.
16. Will the raiders get another steal on a player plummeting down the draft board?
Tyvon Branch was projected by many as a late second or early third round pick. Nfldraftcountdown.com has him ranked as one of the biggest steals of the draft. If he had playe safety in college, which is his natural position, he would’ve been a 2nd round lock IMO.
