Thoughts from the Dark Side
Oakland Raiders may be set at receiver
The Raiders drafted two wide receivers last weekend and judging by their play on the field in college, the young receivers currently on the roster had better step up their game. It’s highly unlikely veterans Javon Walker, Ronald Curry, or Drew Carter have anything to worry about other than playing time, but if you aren’t one of those guys and you’re hoping to play receiver for the silver and black this upcoming season, I suggest you hit the weight room and the practice field.
These guys looked to be the real deal. I don’t have the credentials of an NFL scout, but I play one here sometimes. I’m not much for You Tube highlight videos either, because it only shows the good plays made by players. They are useful though to see how good a player can be. Judging by the following videos, and you can be the judge yourself, these guys ‘could’ be really good. So straight out of TFDS, I present the following:
Chaz Schilens
Arman Shields

Looks like the Raiders may have signed that run stopping LB that we were looking for in Edgarton Hartwell. Hopefully he can play SLB, or he may just be a depth pickup, for run situations. Check it out….
“The Raiders signed veteran middle linebacker Edgerton Hartwell on Friday, a league source confirmed, in a move designed to bolster their run defense.
They’re hoping he can be that former Ravens standout who had 191 tackles in 2002 and averaged 157.3 tackles from 2002-04.
That would be preferred to the player who was out of the league last year after rupturing his Achilles’ heel in 2005 and missing half of 2006 because of pre-season arthroscopic surgery on both knees.
If Hartwell is healthy, it’s a risk worth taking. The Raiders’ linebacker corps, though excellent at dropping into pass coverage, have done little to help against the run the past two seasons.
Kirk Morrison is entrenched as the starter at middle linebacker, so Hartwell must find a niche in run-defense packages.
If the Raiders ever decide to use more 3-4 packages, which Warren Sapp says they are better fit to do personnel-wise, then that would get Hartwell and Morrison on the field at the same time. After all, Hartwell’s best years came as a 3-4 inside linebacker.
The Raiders are still looking to sign another veteran defensive end and quarterback.
The team has not announced Hartwell’s signing.”

I really think Shields will be good and Chaz worth the risk(not big in the 7th) because of his size and speed…he could be something special if Lofton\Walker can teach him!!
Ed Hartwell…i like this pickup…he won’t cost much and if he is healthy he’s a monster vs. the run!!
I would like to get Grady Jackson too…

If we can stop the run and Walker can revive his career we are as scary a team as there is in the league. Damn I wish Kelly would have been end w/ dorsey the 3 technique. But Oak Fo Sho I hope your right about DMAC being the savior, let’s get one more trophy for Al

haha yes get one more trophy for al before he tends to his 1000 year sleep in his crypt.
Hartwell, wow its been a while. hopefully this guy has some potential helping our desperately needed rushing defense… i do remember him owning house 6 yrs ago.
Shields is no doubt going to catch the cannon’s from russell down field. we’ll see about schilens. i can really picture shields and walker lined up on one side… (walker being the possesion receiver) and carter and curry on the other(curry obviously the 2nd slot receiver). by establishing a deep threat with two quick wideouts like carter/shields, this keeps the clutter away from DMAC and HUGGY BEAR JR. to move them chains and THEN SOME BABY!
RAIDERZ ALL DAY !

I think both guys have a chance to have a positive impact in the passing game. Shields seems like he should be able to make good things happen out of the slot position as a possession type of reciever. The thing that impressed me from all the highlights of shields is his ability to concentrate on the ball and get his feet inbounds.
I’m really excited about Chaz. He definitely has the ability to create separation as shown in the vids. We know that it will be different in the pros, he will not consistently run away from corners and safteys. However, if he gets a step on anyone he can take it to the house. Russell could have huge games if this kid catches on quick.

Chaz looks much more dominating in the video but Chris Carter was talking about Arman Shields before the draft started and when the Raiders drafted him they mentioned it like the Raiders really found someone in him so we will see. Higgins is in serious trouble as far as making this team. He has been replaced at reciever and in the return game. He better step up. McFoy has a decent chance of making the team I think. He seems to really be making strides.
