Dos Cinco to Ocho Cinco: Shut up and play
Image details: Biletnikoff coaches Porter

Biletnikoff is partial to players that just play the game
This morning on the Murph and Mac show on KNBR 680, Fred Biletnikoff was gladly answering some of the tough questions that many might not expect from the legendary Raider. During Biletnikoff's 14 seasons playing and near 20 years coaching, he wasn't the most forthcoming interview normally carrying out the Raiders PR demands.
As the questions came, the man considered by many as the best Raider receiver and possibly only second to Jerry Rice as the greatest receiver of all time, was uncharacteristically frank in his assessments. Some of the questions and an excerpt of the answers follow, but if you want to hear the actual interview, click here.
On the Raiders chances this season: The defense will be better...I've always felt we needed to have that one player to bring people to the stadium...McFadden will bring people in...Javon Walker...looks really good...hell of an athlete and a heck of a receiver...the offense has a lot of weapons.
On Randy Moss: Well the one thing with Randy, when he was with us, he just didn't want to be in Oakland...The one thing that Randy always seems to need is some type of stimulation and it certainly wasn't with us...it was very evident to everybody that's how he was...no one was going to change it...with New England...what Bellichick did was he gave him an ultimatum, "You come here and play or you're out,"...with us...the ultimatum wasn't really put to him that way at all...so that was a tough situation to be able to handle when you didn't have that action to go ahead and tell him that...excellent guy, very nice guy, but just a different type of person...probably everybody, including myself, was very sketchy that he would have anymore of his career left, as far being able to play even half way decent.
On today's receivers being divas: ...we had our personalities...now a days these guys, they're just unbelievable...they want to have that showmanship along with playing receiver and it just doesn't go over very well...after a while you become arrogant, and it's not funny anymore...
On Chad Johnson: He's a hell of a player...why he does the things he does, I don't have any idea...I watch interviews and it's, "Me, Me, Me," and he speaks in the third person and Ocho Cinco, I don't even know what it means...somebody told him the two words so now he knows two other words...you have a great talent and you go out there and play, that's what people want to see...and I really feel, myself included, with like Chad Johnson going and getting the hall of fame jacket, that's like a total embarrassment to all of us that's in the Hall of Fame...if his team was 16-0...and gone to 3 or 4 Super Bowls with him, then you could understand it, but they haven't done anything.
On Receiver currently playing that resembles Freddy B.: I like that Houshmanzadeh, I like watching him play. I think he's an outstanding receiver, you know. He's a good route runner, he's a little bit more than a possession receiver at times, he doesn't have great speed, but this guy keeps popping up everytime and he's a quite kid, it seems like anyways...it doesn't even seem like he's in the ballgame and you start looking at the halftime stats, or you're reading the stats the next day or the end of the game and all of a sudden, he's the one leading everything.
Good stuff! I could never be tired of hearing what Fred Biletnikoff thinks about receiving. He was on the show to promote the Fourth Annual Fred Biletnikoff Hall of Fame Golf Classic which will be held on June 2nd at Catta Verdera Country Club, 1111 Catta Verdera, Lincoln, CA near Sacramento. On June 1st at Strikes Family Entertainment Center in Rocklin, CA there will be an autograph show. Check out the press release at the link above. Looks like a great time and all proceeds benefit the Biletnikoff Foundation.

This takes me back to when I was about seven or eight years old. My older brother was schooling me on football as we watched a Raiders game. He would always say, watch Fred Biletnikoff he runs the routes, he makes the score and he hands the ball to the ref, no jumping up and down, no spike, no dance, just football.
The Chad Johnson's and the like act like children, not professionals. I want to see hard hitting, bone crushing football not the freak'n Icky shuffle!

Did he quit his job or was he fired with James Lofton coming in?

He is right about moss, but why would we have kept him around to listen to him complain when we could find someone who wants to play and will be dedicated, which is why we got rid of Rhodes and why we need to get rid of Jordan, make some room for the new guys!! we will be more dominant than JAX's one-two punch starring Maurice Jones-who? go raiders!

On Chad I'd like to say one thing for him. He's not like #18 or To in that he always plays hard. His antics are off the field or after he scores or whatever but you haven't seen him play when he wants to play or do the things those two ja_kas_es have done. Remember when OSU had both Housh and Chad at the same time? Wow! I'll bet ND remembers : )

One thing I used to love about the Raiders is no touchdown dances, no celebrations after a big catch or big defensive play. We used to act like we knew we were gonna make the big play, it's was no big deal, we've been there before. Chad is a hard worker and he's local but I just don't like that showboat business, that's not Raider ball.

I dont think Chad would fit in Oakland it would just be for trouble him and Deangelo Hall would be fighting calling eachother out at practice... lol... But about the celebration topic i honestly dont mind the celebrations hell if a Raiders player makes a play and scores a big touchdown(game wining or something like that), intercepts a pass, recovers a fumble, etc... and were winnig the game then i dont care and i dont think anyone else in the Raider Nation will care as long as were winnig football games thats the key...

Raider Till Death! - He retired when Kiffin took over. The guy who was coaching receivers was re-assigned...that's the last I heard of that guy though, so he may have been let go. Biletnikoff retired though.

I dont agree nor disagree with Chad not wanting to play for Cincy i mean come on they have a decent squad but some their players are getting arrested on the regular... it gets frustrating after a while the man is getting older he wants to win, but i don feel Chad shouldve handled the situation behind closed doors, he probably would've had a better chance of completing his objective(to be traded). But it would be extremly unfair to Chad to compare him to Moss, because last year his team was clearly out of the playoffs for about the last 3 to 4 weeks and he was still getting 100 yd games he's a hard worker... unlike that pussy(Randy Moss)!
GO RAIDERS!!!

I agree with pat. T. that he shuld have dealt with the situation better than he has, but unlike some others players he gives it his everything all the time, regardless of where they are in the game. And personaly I can't blame him for wanting out of Bengals.
As for the celebrations I aint a big fan of them, but have got to admit that his celebrations can be very funny and atleast you know he is emotional about what he does.

I personally just hope since Johnson has made such a huge deal about wanting to be traded, then he better keep his word and not play or else he should've kept his mouth shut...
GO RAIDERS!!!
