(Most of the) Truth comes out about the Javon Walker story

Thanks to Fox 5 Las Vegas, A police report has been issued to the public and it doesn’t look good for anyone, except the police. Floyd Mayweather and his entourage can now be exonerated by the public because according to the police report, this was not a ‘grudge beating.’ So we at TFDS will extend our apologies to running the possibility that he had something to do with it. The police report brings most of the truth out, while covering up some truths that the Oakland Raiders or Raider Nation may not want to know.

The Mayweather rumor wasn’t totally inaccurate, just mostly incomplete. Walker was partying at Body English as we already know, then gambled for 15 minutes and headed up to the Penthouse at the Hard Rock to an after hours party. After being done there, he and his friend Ryan Lewis, along with two other women got into an Escalade that was to take them all back to his hotel room at the Bellagio. There was another female, Lindsey Herman, that Walker invited to follow them and that’s where the story gets interesting.

What hasn’t been reported until now is that Walker and Lewis got into a heated argument on the way back to the Bellagio. Apparently, it was so heated that Walker got out of the Escalade and into Herman’s car. The two then went to the Bellagio, but after dropping off their car with the valet, Walker was called over to a Range Rover. According to the police report, Walker had about $3,900 in casino chips in his pocket and the Range Rover had followed them from the Hard Rock to the Bellagio.

I mention the chips because they’ll come up again, but of the $3,900, he had three $1,000 chips. Walker apparently walked over to the Range Rover, and talked to the driver while the passenger got out and made a few unwarranted comments to Herman (possibly sexual?). After a minute, Walker and the two guys from the Range Rover entered the casino for a few minutes and then they all left together. Herman, not being able to find Walker went home.

Stopping there for a minute…does anyone else see drug deal? I’m speculating, I don’t know what happened so before anyone starts ‘hating,’ realize I’m only telling you like I see it. To me, it looks like they called him over, offered him a deal he couldn’t refuse and then they went and Walker cashed out whatever he needed to complete the deal. The report states:

Shortly thereafter the suspect seated in the right front passenger seat exited the Range Rover and approached Herman. Herman stated the suspect made several unwanted comments to her. Simultaneously Walker entered the Range Rover and sat in the right front passenger seat. The Range Rover left the valet area at approximately 0553 hours only to return one minute later.

For those of you who have never seen a drug deal go down, this looks as though they left the property to give Walker an opportunity to try the product without the watchful eyes of the security monitors of the casino. The report goes on:

When they returned the driver and Walker exited, met up with the other suspect and briefly entered the casino area. Within a minute, both suspects and Walker exited the casino and re-entered the Range Rover. At approximately 0558 hours the Range Rover left the Valet area. The driver got into the driver’s seat, Walker got in the right front passenger seat, and the second suspect sat directly behind Walker in the right rear passenger seat.

If I’m right, could it be that Walker went in to cash those casino chips to buy the product and then go on the drug run with the thugs that later beat him? I’m curious, are you? In a matter of 5 to 6 minutes, Walker has left the casino twice and entered once with the driver, Arfat Fadel.

The story after that gets rather vague. According to Herman, Walker called her at home from Drai’s a club at Bills Gambling Hall (Barbary Coast Hotel and Casino). He asked her to pick him up there, but surveillance footage showed that the Range Rover never arrived there from the Bellagio. The footage did however, show that Arfat Fadel was there at 0510 hours, prior to Walker leaving the Hard Rock.

The footage showed that Fadel received a phone call around 0532 and was seen hastily walking to the Range Rover. Minutes later, the Range Rover is seen on the Hard Rock surveillance video following Walker and his entourage away from the casino.

The key points that lead this to be a highly planned robbery are the fact that Fadel and his girlfriend, Alicia Granstedt, had just been served a 3 day notice to vacate their foreclosed home. The charges against Fadel for abuse of this girlfriend were prior to the Walker robbery. They were still living together and the morning of the Robbery he came back to the home in a hurry and had her cash out two $1,000 Hard Rock chips.

When the two were picked up, they were in the planning stages of leaving an Extended Stay hotel and according to the girlfriend, she had no idea that Fadel was involved with the Walker beating and robbery.

That’s the gist of the story, but it’s odd that Walker only remembers being approached by two unidentified males and then being escorted to the Range Rover before not remembering much after.

If Walker is currently doing drugs like cocaine or methamphetamine, he would still be able to pass a drug test easily since either drug has exited the system within days. According to KCI, an anti-meth site, meth stays in the system for 3 to 4 days. Another detox site suggests cocaine stays in the system for 2 to 3 days. Normally an athlete has 24 to 48 hours notice prior to a random drug test by the league and if you aren’t in the league’s substance abuse system like Walker, it could be more.

The police report also stated that Walker did actually sustain “a fractured jaw, a fractured (right) orbital bone and a concussion.” While these injuries could be considered serious, the Raiders are confidently stating that he’ll be ready by the time training camp rolls around July 25th. I’m not sure if the league office will be able to get the medical records for Walker. If Walker was indeed working out a deal for drugs, it’s likely that he would have some still in his system when at the hospital. Let’s just hope that my speculation is nothing but a product of where I’m from, where this sort of thing has been very common for the past two decades.

    Rob, Rob, Rob….

OK, you apologize for reporting that Mayweather was involved…. so you were wrong and big enough to admit it…

But then you compund it by saying you are ’speculating’ this was a drug deal….

Wow, I thought reporters were supposed to have facts. In your opinion, Walker did something wrong….

I hope Walker sues you and your website for defamation of character…. for your ’speculating’…. I hope he is awarded enough money that your grandchildren will still be paying it off….

Here is some speculation for you

‘while he was not name specifically in the report, and this is just specualtion, all indications are that Rob Cologne was the second party involved in the Walker beating. Las Vegas police have declined comment as they are still pursuing the as yet unnamed ‘person of interest’”

    see, anyone can speculate….

I think your speculation is reasonable, Rob. Been there, done that, lived to regret it. I’m sure the Raiders and the NFL are asking themsevles some of the same questions. In any case, Javon Walker needs to get smart and get some counseling.

Thanks Adrian and freesafety for understanding where I was getting at.

Reconviper1 - While I can see where your disdain may be coming from, I’m not accusing Javon Walker of anything or even saying that I know what happened, but let’s run through the FACTS:
    1) For what other reason would he drive off with a complete stranger for a minute, walk into the casino with him for less than five minutes and then take off with the two culprits and leave his friend behind?
    2) The only difference in the police report and the Mayweather rumor, which we reported as a rumor, is that Mayweather or his posse were not involved.
    3) Speculate means to guess. It’s not libel nor is is defamation. Had I said that ‘I know that he did it,’ then there would be a problem.

I understand that you want to read facts. All of the facts are in the story along with the LINKS to the facts. I think that makes it pretty clear that we are not accusing or blaming Walker for anything. We are analyzing the facts and that is all.

As far as the speculating, we’re all free to share what’s on our mind right?

Thanks for stopping by and reading here at TFDS.

Well, now it may be reassuring that Walker showed up at camp overweight. That would probably eliminate him from being a meth head.

I hope your wrong Rob, obviously. But I was worried about putting too much stock in Walker when we signed him, now I’m even more concerned. This guy just has too many question marks, on and off the field.

I have VERY little compassion for an athlete who has a gift and wastes it away. I know he’s a human being and that part i feel bad about. But these primadonna athletes who think they’re above the law and everything else, just get under my skin.

He was probably getting some pills or ganja.
Either way, homie is still dealing with the deal of williams and untill he tackles that, he won’t be doing the Raider Nation much good.

A drug deal would explain why he’d get in a car with stalking strangers in the early morning hours, and it would also explain why he initially reported a false story to the media. That he was just stupid drunk might (like the Raiders “might” go 16-0 this year) explain the first anamoly, but not the second. I’d like to hear alternative explanations.

When Walker was taken to the hospital they would have done a drug sample either via blood or urine (considering he was unconscious, this probably wouldnt work). A drug sample is usually common in emergency departments when a serious injury such as this occurs (I’ve worked in ER). So I really doubt this was a drug deal. Either way I just think its too complicated to be a drug deal, I think it was just a beating.

    Rob,

You see it exactly as I have from the beginning. After he was good and high, then they robbed and beat him. He drove around with them too many times and in and out of places to not be up to something, spoke to a friend later with the mumbly speach indicates this too..then late to make up the Bellagio hotel room story to cover up what he was really up to. He did not know of cameras. It is Still terrible this happend to him.

For those of you that hope that my take on the events are completely false, I’m with you. The last thing the Raiders need is to lose this guy for any time at all. If the Raiders hope to have anywhere near a .500 record, Walker has to be ready to play.

Amy - You and I are now on the same page with this. It wasn’t until I read the report that I even let myself consider this.

Ruben - I agree with you about the blood test. I have to research to see if the Raiders or the NFL can get their hands on it. Right now, I’d say they couldn’t and the police would rarely give out that sort of information on the victim. Good points though.

Those of you that stepped up in my defense…THANKS! I owe you one. :-)

Lastly, thanks Jerry. I’d like to think that my writing skills are good enough to write on MVN.com… oh wait…they are. Wow! ;-) Come on back anytime.

Maybe I am a glass half full kind of guy, but drugs are not the only answer here. Javon by all accounts was very intoxicated. If someone hollered his name and he went over to the Range Rover, what is the possibility that someone pulled a gun on him right then and there. Being intoxicated, he might not fully understand his choice of getting the hell out of there. Feeling threatened, he complies with all of the thugs requests.

Rob your theory that he went in to the Bellagio to cash the $1000 chips is easily proven false. First, most casinos won’t cash the chips of another casino. Second, the person who was arrested had his girlfriend cash 2 of the chips at the Hard Rock 3 hours after Javon was found in the street. Sure he could of only cashed one of them, but see the first reason why I think this is wrong. Also, Javon had $3000 dollars US currency stolen from him, why did he need to cash the chips. Don’t tell me he got the cash from the chips because we already know the bitch cashed 2 of them at the Hard Rock.

There are still lots of questions to be answered, but jumping to the drug conclusion is not fair. If it is drugs, and I am not saying it isn’t, but why jump straight to meth? Could of been weed as someone else pointed out.

My biggest question is still why did he call Herman to pick him up from Drai and then not answer? And, why did he answer the call from Gonzalaz?

Yes the report answers some questions, but there are still too many holes to make assumptions.

Good job summarizing the report, but I don’t agree with your assumptions. That doesn’t mean they are not correct, I just don’t agree.

  22. Rob Calonge says:

    June 27th, 2008 at 6:33 pm

Junior - Thanks for your take. I haven’t yet addressed why I ‘jumped to the conclusion’ that it was meth or coke. He’s not in the drug program, and with training camp so close and the amount of time it takes to get pot out of your system, I chose to go with the drugs that would dissipate by the time he’d have to test. Like you said, maybe it wasn’t drugs. I’m actually giving him credit that he’s smart enough to know that it’s much more difficult to get away with pot than it is the other.

Players normally test at the start of training camp if they are called at all.

Just so everyone knows. If the word is underlined, it’s probably a link to my train of thought in the story. We have the link to the police report, detox centers explaining how long it takes for the drug to pass, etc…

Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to take a look.

Only someone fried out of his head would think that going to a Vegas nightclub and spraying expensive champagne on people is a blast. Also the fact that Javon runs to Vegas everytime he is reminded of Darrent Williams death suggests he needs something to take his mind off the pain. If that happened to me, a club in vegas would not be enough. He definitely needs help. We can only hope that getting beaten to within an inch of his life was all the help he needs. I think he feels responsible for what happened to Williams and in his mind he deserved this.

Ya know… I understand your speculation, and I can honestly say that what you say just may be what it was. Could it possibly be something different though? The report that I read says that he had cash, 2 x $1000 worth of chips, and jewelry stolen. If the guy’s girlfriend cashed the chips the next day as the report says, what did Walker cash? If this was a drug deal, why did they stalk him and wait so long? Why not approach him earlier instead of following him all night?
I’m sure if Walker were threatened, that that statement would have already been made, so something had to have enticed him to get into the vehicle.

    – here’s some food for thought though… I know there are a lot more black athletes in the NFL (or any sport other than hockey) than any other… but why don’t you hear about someone like Jeremy Shockey, Brett Favre, or anyone else getting into this type of trouble? I’m by far not a racist person, but what is it about black athletes that they are always pissing their career away doing stupid shit?

  30. LDizzle says:

    June 28th, 2008 at 3:46 pm

Jon I can only attempt to answer your question. Many black players grew up in poor households and in bad neighborhoods. They clung to sports as an escape as well as a hope that they could get up and get out and take their family along with them. But growing up that poor and with very few positive role models (not sports figures but family and friends) means that having truckloads of money piled at your feet when you are 21 or 22 years old can make for a very confused individual. You will notice a lot of Cuban and Dominican baseball players end up in similar situations for the same reason. Being responsible in not just something that comes with growing up, it has to be instilled throughout ones life. And growing up in a culture of violence and poverty not only underdevelops a man but teaches the wrong values with very little moral compass.

I do see where you’re going with your reply LDizzle, but that’s a tired ass excuse to me. I grew up in the POOREST of situations. I am from Appalachia… eastern Kentucky… far eastern Kentucky. I grew up in a broken home… I lived on powdered milk, government cheese and homemade crackers made from flour and water with salt as snacks at night time - standing by the stove to warm up in the morning during Winter because we didn’t have the money to turn the gas on. My mother didn’t go to church… my stepdad was an asshole for my entire childhood… I’ll tell ya this - I bet some of these kids growing up on the streets would not even consider trading me for my life. But here I am - 30 years old - and I live a successful life. I have a wonderful fiance, I have a home to live in and a vehicle. I go to church on Sundays, and through the week I work and work more. Now, I had a piss poor existence growing up. By these standards, it would be ok if I robbed people, became a crackhead, sold blow to kids, and killed people… I can always blame it on the way I was raised. People are the way they are because THEY choose to be that way. Not because of peer pressure…not because of anything other than their own selfish desires.

Note that I said that being poor was only PART of the equation. I am no kind of apologist and I notice the trends as much as you do. What I said was not an ecxuse, crutch, or cop-out. It is a simple explanation. It is nature vs nurture. I am telling you it is the envirionment they were raised in and you are saying they CHOOSE to not be productive members of society. Well why do you think they make those CHOICES? No one comes upon who they are on their own or by genetics. Who we become is more about how we were raised and the culture we were exposed to. To Junior: The girlfriend cashed the chips not knowing what was going on and she is not a b#&*ch either! Arfat was a freelance gambling teacher in Vegas..it was not unusual for him to have large valued chips. Unfortunately I have some insider information because the girlfriend (she owned the foreclosed home not Arfat) (she is also employed by the way-police report got that wrong!) is my friends daughter! She had no idea what Fadel was up to and that he was such a lunatic! Goes to show you that you don’t always know who you are dealing with! I’m glad you said it–the more these reports were coming out, the more it sounded like a drug deal to me. I’ve been in several of them, and thought I was being a “hater” for even thinking that until I read someone who clearly is not also drawing that conclusion. Walker is an idiot.

It’s also too bad that the most dangerous, artificial, and maddening drugs–cocaine, meth, x–cannot be detected days later, while the NFL’s drug test will show pot several weeks after it was smoked. Does anyone think pot is going to help a football player? Why do they even test for that?

  40. Fred W says:

    July 7th, 2008 at 3:12 pm

Statements & Principles (LDizzle & NERAIDER take notes!)

Walker got a beat-down: People who CHOOSE to get wasted and deal with the street make themselves vulnerable to BAD things. It’s a CHOICE.

Jon IS better than his mother: People who CHOOSE to be guided by something higher than the dumb-a$$es around them live better lives.

People choose to be gay: A man who desires and CHOOSES to molest a minor is a pedophile. A man who desires and CHOOSES to have sex with his mother is a incestuous creep. A man who CHOOSES to mount his friend is gay. It’s as simple as that.

These people may have stronger impulse than others to make the WRONG CHOICE (perhaps even genetic), but it is still a WRONG CHOICE.

Summary: To get back to the subject at hand… Walker is a stupid, stupid man for putting himself in a compromising position. No matter what the truth ends up being, the police report and surveillance tapes clearly show he made bad CHOICES. Lets check all the excuses and socio-economic justification at the door. His CHOICES landed him in the emergency room.

I don’t have any idea how LDizzle can call Jon a racist! I agree with Jon and further concur with Fred. These are all choices. I am tired of the view that we are so incapable of taking care of ourselves. Outside of those who have been mentally and physically abused and therefore in need of severe help and counseling…we make are own choices. This country needs to quite blaming everyone for there problems for generations and generations and take responsiblity! and yes, being Gay is a CHOICE. Unless your body; as a woman came out with male parts for vice versa; you are the sex you are!
