Thoughts from the Dark Side

Raider Nation: Don’t even think that Favre will be a Raider

Brett Favre a Raider? That shipped has probably already sailed Raider Nation.

Sure, I’ve been thinking about it and hoping for it since the Raiders traded for Randy Moss.  I’m pretty sure that back then Al Davis, Randy Moss, and Brett Favre were thinking the same thing…Brett Favre wearing silver and black going vertical to Randy Moss.  I think that you’d have to be a little dense to think that Favre has been wanting to leave Green Bay since they spent a first round pick on Aaron Rodgers.  A happy camper doesn’t alienate their backup unless they are a little insecure with the message being sent with his acquisition.  The message that Favre got at the time was, “The door is now open for you to retire.”

I’ll also admit, I was a little shocked that he decided to retire this offseason.  It’s not like he was on a hopeless loser that was rebuilding a team for two or three years down the road.  That chance to win a Super Bowl is best had in Green Bay by Favre.  None of the other prime Super Bowl contenders need or want a one year fling with arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL.  They definitely don’t want to pay the type of salary Favre might command on the open market.  Besides, they all have quarterbacks that are not only the present, but also the future.

So why wouldn’t Favre sign with the Raiders?  I think that in order for a player to sign with a team, three variables need to be aligned.  The first variable would be the coaching staff has to want him.  I don’t know about you, but if I’m Lane Kiffin, I take my chances with the young inexperienced Russell so that if the Raiders don’t have a winning season, either Al Davis or the next owner he works for takes that into consideration.

The second variable has to be the player wants to play for the organization.  I’m sure that Favre wouldn’t mind playing for Al Davis and the Raiders, if they were winning.  The Raiders haven’t won in so long, Favre isn’t going to stake his final two years being Joe Namath with the Rams or O.J. Simpson with the Niners.  If Favre comes back, he wants to come back so that he can go out like Elway, a champion.  With Favre on the Raiders, I think that the chances of the silver and black going to the playoffs increases exponentially, but the Super Bowl?  It’s true anything can happen once in the playoffs, but the likelihood isn’t as good.

The final variable would be that the owner is willing to make the move of acquiring Favre.  As much as it pains me to say this, Al Davis isn’t looking to the future.  He wants to win and he wants to do it yesterday.  This is the only variable that I’m sure would go the way of Favre becoming a Raider.  I don’t blame Davis for wanting to add talent, but we’ve all seen some of the Raider talent never come to fruition because a more experienced veteran was starting at their respective position.

All of these points are moot because it looks like unless Green Bay gets a Michael Corleone type of offer, they’re going to make Favre re-retire or ride the pine.  I don’t think it’s right for them to do that, but the team I root for does that all of the time, sorry Lamont.

At least now I know that I’m not a crackpot for having these thoughts.  Apparently the most even keeled of us all, Jerry McDonald, is thinking the same thing.  You know that Al Davis is thinking it, and maybe even Lane Kiffin has let the thought enter his mind too.  You can bet that Favre isn’t thinking about it since John Bowie became compensation for Randy Moss.  I’m not going to even mention the well-known fued between Favre and Javon Walker either.

It’s fine to ruminate about what Favre could do as a Raider, but don’t get caught up in a belief it will happen.  Unless I’m completely wrong, which I don’t think I am, the only way Raider Nation will be seeing him up close and personal is if he signs with a team that visits the Net next year.

Rob- I was planning on about the same story. The thing is signing Brett would be a classic Al move.

You actually think Bret wants to come out to the West Coast and play for the garbage that Al Davis has created in Oakland? Please!

Fifth Horseman - If you could read, you’d see that we DON’T think that.

Why am I bothering? You probably can’t read this either. :-)

    Thanks for stopping by.

yea horses ass, learn how to read you dipshit. NONE of us think that he’ll ever be a raider, he wants to be a starter somewhere, and the raiders wouldn’t even be able to oblige.. seeing as we already have a one idiot. who the hell asked you anyway? and garbage in oakland? haha i bet you have all sorts of logic to back that up to don’t you puss. i can’t wait for dumbass raider haters like you to eat your words. its going to be great.

Hey Kushman I can’t wait to see the looks on the Raiders fans faces when you guys finish 4-12 or 5-11 again. That is what is really going to be great.

Man im not gonna point anyone out(cough, cough Horseman) but if people are gonna comment on an article dont just read the title… Hell if you even only read the title you would know that Rob nor Kushman are saying that Favre will become a Raider… And by your first post Horse i realized you obviously don’t like the Raiders… Well then what are you doing here?… If your not gonna bother to read the article or its title, then don’t bother to comment on it either…

And if we do go 4-12 or 5-11 again then so what… What can we do, but be loyal to our team and support it… Even though i don’t belive we’ll be in the playoffs this year… I do belive(hope) we should at least win 6 games at least… Not guranteeing it, but i think anything under 6 or 7 wins will be a HUGE dissappointment. That will be very costly for Lane Kiffin(looking for a new job) and Al Davis(looking for new coach and players)… Anyways we’ll have to wait and see… But good article Rob, like you said if Randy Moss was still here i have no doubt that we would go for it and Favre might sign with us(boy that would be AWESOME… WHAT A DREAM)…

But i do disagree with you about compairing the Lamont Jordan and Brett Favre situation… Because i don’t think what the Raiders are doing to Jordan is wrong, by keeping him on the roster to avoid him from signing with a divisional team… I mean come on Lamont got a BIG contract from the Raiders a couple of years ago and since after his first season hasn’t really done much… Whether it was because of injuries or being out shape or whatever… It was always something, ’til last season he got injured and Fargas saw the oppurtunity and ran with it(litearly)… But instead Brett has litearly won every major team and individual award(Superbowls, MVP’s, Offensive player of the year, etc)… So i do think that the Packers are dealing Brett a bad hand for everything he’s done for the franchise…

    GO RAIDERS!!!

And behold, there will be a 5th horseman. He will ride a pink horse. And his name will be called Stupidity.

What team wants a 17 year QB to come run their offense? What QB can step in as training camp begins and be ready to go on day one?

Favre went out on top. Why go back and be Johnny U in San Diego?

I actually looked at the Raiders because it would be so classic Al. He’s got the arm to throw the deep ball, something Al was willing to take along with the overall suckiness of Jay Schroeder and Jeff George, so why wouldn’t he get someone who has that ability along with some others?
But Favre doesn’t want to lose, and there are too many questions on the Raiders roster. He doesn’t want to learn a new offense. Mostly, he wants to be the alpha dog, and nobody but Al is that in Oakland.
Take it from the Cheesehead who most frequents your site, you don’t want him, either. He would get you a couple extra wins, but hamper the development of Russell with his receivers. Plus I doubt he and Walker would get along too well.

Not gonna alienate the fifth horsemen, he already knows hes an illiterate dumbass by now. Boy would I hate to pay Favre’s salary and we already have Jamarcus. It would be a foolish move to pick him up

How does everyone think EA feels about the situation? Farve could go from hero to pariah in the blink of a news cycle. I was fortunate or unfortunate enough to live in Wisconsin, 4 years ago. You could take bad about Jesus, your momma, America, or anything. You did not however talk bad about Brett Farve, unless you were prepared to fight, mentally, physically, emotionally, or even spiritually. Great actor though, did you see that press conference, and I hear he was in a movie as well.
Great read Rob, ah what could have been.

MJ- Bret has a ways to go to even approach the arm strength of JaMarcus Russell. He’ll have no problem throwing the deep ball. The only question is will he be more LaMonica or Schroeder?

Theres no point in even going through this anymore we all know that unless the Packers are idiots they wont release him… And you know theres no way in hell Al Davis and the Raiders could pay Brett & Russell and still be under the cap… Plus the Nnamdi situation… So we know it wont happen…

    GO RAIDERS!!!
