TFDS Prayer of the Week: Ponies from Colorado

Pastor Mando

As the season is now upon us, I remembered a quote from Matt Millen in America's game describing the famous Raiders saying, "If you're not cheating, you're not trying." How he described the meaning of that quote was appropriate for those great 70's and 80's teams. I don't have the quote with me right now, but what he said was that the meaning of that message was that you do whatever it takes to win. If that meant pulling a facemask or grabbing a jersey, then that's what you did. Whatever you did, a Raider never gave up.

So in the spirit of that message I contacted our partner site, Nation Ministry, to see if Pastor Mando would give us a weekly prayer.  Hey, it couldn't hurt could it?  He graciously agreed and I'm hoping that he'll do this every week for us here.

We'd also like you to know that we're not trying to convert anyone or disrespect anybody's faith or lack thereof.  We honor your beliefs and in no way are making a statement as to how you should live your life.  So without further ado, here is this week's TFDS Raiders prayer:

Oakland Raiders

A Prayer for Victory In 2008

In the Lord we trust: He trains my hands for battle, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, And Your right hand upholds me; And Your gentleness makes me great. Psalm 18:34-35

As we start the 2008 football season, It's an honor to bring the Raider Nation, before Almighty God in prayer for protection from injury and as they travel around this great country, to battle the opponents on the 2008 schedule, may the Silver and Black have a prosperous winning season!

The stage is set for battle in Oaktown… as we approach our first game on Monday Night Football September 8, 2008  the Raider Nation will bring the spirit of the12th man. The Black Hole will be rocking with the earth-shattering sound of "Defense!" as the team with the shield has found favor with the Lord! As His right hand switches its favor upon the offense, we thank him with approval as the Silver and Black carry the rock across the end zone.

As our team marches in conquest of our AFC adversary the, Denver Broncos, your word reveals the truth of their given name… A horse is a false hope for victory, nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength Psalm 33:17. As the gentle breeze of the Autumn Wind approaches, it brings forth the Raider with the hands of battle bending and breaking them down knocking them upside down, pillaging their game plan, bringing confusion and fear on those ponies from Colorado. As we thank you Lord, we salute you with our right hand for the upcoming "Victory!"

And The Nation said…Amen

Let's go! But it does seem like the stars have aligned in our favor with Marshall being suspended, them trading Dominique Foxworth, and the overall vibe that the Raider Nation is feeling. I like our chances not only for this game, but for the season. 6 days and counting...

BREAKING NEWS- DT William Joseph has been released to make room for newly signed Ashlie Lelie. This is good news considering he was one of the dead weight players on this team. It also means that Watkins and Schilens were not casualties.

Good call Rob, It can't hurt, the Raider Nation has had way to much bad luck, on and off the field, a little prayer just might bring us a little more favor?

You laid down a good prayer, Pastor Mando

Thank You!

Well I don't subscribe to God is a Raider Fan and I don't believe a sport where you take a shower afterward and get to drink beer is exactly combat but hey it sounded good especially about never giving up. : )

"What's going on Raider Nation! Hey, Spokane Oakfan, Having Pastor Napoleon Kaufman lay down a prayer for the Raider Nation before a game is an excellent idea.

I'm headed to OAKTOWN for the weekend for the game on Monday Night and have plans of visiting his his church on Sunday, I'll make the invitation. How does that sound Rob!

It's all about team work in the Body of Christ! In fact, for your information Raider Nation, we have many ex-players out there serving the Lord, along with Pastor Kaufman we have Steve (The Wiz) as a youth Pastor and Tyrone Whitley, In Atlanta Georgia, we have Pastor Terry McDaniels and along his side is Pastor James Trapp, In Dallas Texas, we have Tim Brown also active is Rocket Raghib Ismail and we should not forget Pastor Adam Ybarra, he's the team Pastor.

One thing is for sure, there's a lot of prayer out there for the Raider Nation! "Stay Tune"

God Bless

"Let's Go Raiders!
