Bulger Will Start, Lose
The good news for Sunday’s game against the Packers at the Ed is that Marc Bulger will be in the starting lineup.
The bad news is that it won’t make much difference.
The Pack is cruising at 11-2. A win on Sunday coupled with a Seattle loss will give Green Bay the No. 2 NFC seed for the playoffs (the Seahawks won’t lose, but GB will get closer at least). In addition, a paltry 184 yards will move Brett Favre into first place on the all-time passing yards list, capping off his triumphant march to the top of the record books in every category. St. Louis can look forward to a higher draft pick with a loss.
So, to recap: Green Bay is rolling through the rest of the season into its NFC Championship showdown with Dallas. St. Louis has nothing left to play for.
The line for this game is 8.5. Even with the Rams’ home field advantage, this is very low. I expect nothing short of a blowout tomorrow in St. Louis. Brett Favre will get his 184 yards and plenty to spare. Ryan Grant will make a Pro Bowl bid.
As for St. Louis’s offense, Marc Bulger will play tomorrow despite all common sense screaming at the Rams to bench him through the end of the year. The season’s over, save your 60 million dollar man for next year. But the Rams love to pass, and who better to do that than a concussed, beat-up quarterback? Meanwhile, Steven Jackson will continue to chafe after getting about half as many touches as he deserves. I fully expect Bulger to leave the game sometime in the second half and for all hell to break loose as both the offense and defense disintegrate after realizing that there is nothing left to play for.
The St. Louis-Green Bay game of 2007 will best be remembered as another stepping stone along Green Bay’s almost Cinderella-like journey through the season that will culminate in the NFC Championship game and, if they are lucky, a Super Bowl berth against the Patriots. But hey, the Rams will have prime draft picks!
Green Bay 27, St. Louis 14
