Sean Taylor passes away from complications of Injury
Redskins safety Sean Taylor did not make it through last night, passing away some 24-odd hours following his attack.
His agent, Richard Sharpstein, commented to Jason La Canfora of the Washington post following Sean’s passing:
“He’s gone, Sean didn’t make it through the night,” Sharpstein said, calling his death following a gunshot wound during a home invasion in South Florida Monday, “a ridiculous, unnecessary tragedy.”
“When he got to hospital there was severe, profuse bleeding that could not really be stopped, only curbed a bit,” Sharpstein said, praising the work of first-arrivers and those at the trauma center where they tried to keep Taylor alive. “But when they called for the helicopter, now things are already way down the road.”
Sharpstein said doctors remained guarded through the night. “Because of the amount of blood he lost, it looked bleak from the beginning,” Sharpstein said. Even after Taylor grabbed the finger of a doctor when instructed to late Monday afternoon., Sharpstein said he “never fully regaining responsiveness and consciousness.”:
“The doctors are saying when he grabbed a hand it could have been a reflex, it could have been a twitch, it could have been anything,” Sharpstein said. “It could have been his way of saying goodbye. He just could not make it through the night. It’s another example in this world, in this country and in this city of senseless violence and the tragic waste of a young life.”
Sean will be missed as much by the Washington Redskins as he will by his family and friends. Several Redskin execs, and tailback Clinton Portis flew down to Miami yesterday afternoon to visit with Sean. He was able to react to stimuli when asked to squeeze a doctor’s hand, but never fully regained consciousness from the blood loss.

R.I.P Sean Taylor. I live in Miami and I am a big Redskin fan. I followed Taylor’s career from UM to the Redskins, I remember draft day 2004 hoping we would draft Taylor and when we did draft him, I was so excited.. He will be missed not only as a player but a good person.. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Taylor family.

If London Fletcher represents the brains of the defense and the Front Four the brawn, then Sean Taylor represented the defense’s heart. He played every down all out and set the defense’s tone with bone-jarring hits, sure tackling and a ball-hawking pass defense.
Sean was a rare player, one who comes along once in a great while. His athleticism, instincts, speed and power were a remarkable combination that made him formidable at such a young age at his position. And with his recent advances in maturity and development as an intelligent, prepared practitioner of his position, he was steadily cementing himself an historic career in the NFL.
Saddly, that has all come to an end with one swift, senseless, tragic event.
Everyone prayed for a miracle as the clock wound down. Sean was a gifted, finely honed athlete; surely his body could sustain him while the doctors fought to save his life. Hope seemed within reach as Sean grasped the hand of one of the medical staff during post-surgical recovery.
It was not to be. He slipped away as the night ebbed, leaving behind a loving family of relatives, friends, commrades and fans.
Sean will be remembered for many things, his life played out like a highlight reel. But the one image that will stand out in my mind will be that of a man who had dedicated himself to elevate his life, becoming the pillar of his own family. In the end, he selflessly stood up to defend that family in the face of an armed attacker.
Sean showed courage on the field and courage in life. May his memory be for a blessing.

RIP Sean.
Amen to just about everything that’s been posted here, particularly what The Don said, though I would extend that to the fact that no one — player or otherwise — deserves what happened to Taylor.

An absolute tragedy. From what I’ve been reading about him, it seemed that he had turned the corner in life outside of football. As a player, he was a great talent. I pray that God comforts his family in this time.
I was reading the Washington Post forums and one of the posts summed it up…today, there really isn’t any Giants or Eagles or Cowboys fans (like me)…we’re all Redskins.
God bless Sean Taylor.

This tragic loss of a great player, and a very young man who had just found his way, leaving behind a fiancee and more importantly a 1 1/2 year-old daughter…is almost overwhelming when i think about what will be of the poor girl who’s never gonna really know her father for who he was to the family, and not just to football…that’s saddening…
R.I.P. Sean….from a Giants fan…

One of the posters on the Washington Post forums summed it up this morning…there are no Giants or Eagles or Cowboys fans (like me)…we’re all Redskins today.
God bless you, Sean. May He comfort his family and friends.

Incredibly sad tragedy - despite Taylor’s previous missteps, I read on ESPN last night how he had apparently gotten his act together after the birth of his daughter, and how he had changed for the better.
RIP, Sean.

I’m still in shock that this happened…i can only echo what already has been said. Sean didnt deserve this, and its so sad to hear that the NFL has lost a great player, and the world has lost a man who seemed to just turn the corner…my prayers go out to him and his family. May he rest in peace, he is in a better place now…most likely playing a game of football…

I’m still in shock of this. I enjoyed watching him play, because I knew he always gave his everything on the field. Teammates loved him, friends loved him, his family loved him, and we loved him.
I can’t imagine the pain that his family and friends are going through. My prayers go out to you and all those affected.
Us over at the 49ers blog are definitely praying for everyone affected by this.
RIP Sean

This is truly a tragedy. My heart goes out to Sean’s family and friends.
Nobody deserves to die so young and with so much opportunity before them. Hopefully he and his family know that he was loved and will be missed by many, within the Redskins organisation and beyond.
I dont know any of you but I imagine there is a simialr feeling. Be greatfull for what you have and those that care for you. Ring your family and tell ‘em you love them, for life is too short and improtant for people not to know you care.

R.I.P. Sean Taylor.. I’m a New York Giants fan and I live in Florida. I seen Sean Taylor play during college and, of course, in the NFL. I considered him a bad bad man on the field because of his ball-hawking skills, his speed, and his mind blowing hits.. He was a terrific player and in my mind was a future Hall of Famer.. There is not very many smash mouth hitters like the old times, but Sean Taylor was one of them.. My regards to the Taylor family and the fans.

this is a senseless tragedy that didnt need to happen. it saddens me to hear about a young man baeing taken out in his prime. we as miami fans need to show the taylor’s that there was much love for sean and all that he did on the football field. he was a talented talented young man and he will be sorely missed. my thoughts and prayers go out to his family as they try to make sense of this horrific act that was inflicted upon them. i am deepley saddened by this because. he will never get the chance to see that justice is done for him because his life was ended when he was in his prime. to the taylor family if you ever get to read this i send out my condolences to you and hope that there will be a light that shines on you in this very dark time in your lives. sean was one of my favorite players to watch in his days at miami. and my hope and prayers are with his girlfriend and his daughter and his family. sean will be missed
