Saints Ground Falcons; Remain Alive in Playoff Race
The dark cloud of Michaell Vick’s sentencing hung over the Falcons franchise Monday night and the Saints took full advantage.
Drew Brees posted another spectacular performance, throwing three touchdowns in a 34-14 blowout in front of a relatively sparse Georgia Dome crowd.
The Saints offense got whatever they wanted against a uninspired Falcons defense. Brees through 41 passes and completed 28 of them.
Aaron Stecker proved Monday night why he has had such longevity in the NFL as a career backup running back. He gets the job done.
The Saints asked him to shoulder the load tonight after their two starting backs went down. How does he respond? A 100 yard rushing game. That’s what being a professional athelete is all about.
The New Orleans defense came to play tonight as well, albeit against a junior varsity caliber quarterback in Chris Redman.
Nevertheless, Roman Harper snagged a tipped ball out of the air and returned it for a touchdown. Keven Kaesviharn filled in nicely for injured safety Josh Bullocks and Will Smith had another impressive outing on the defensive line.
All in all, the Saints took care of business Monday night and put themselves in a good position to make a run at the playoffs.
If Drew Brees keeps the offense clicking the way it was tonight, the Saints have the ability to play with anybody in the league. Anybody except that team up there in the northeast that hasn’t really lost a game yet.
Gosh, can you imagine what Randy Moss would do to Jason David?
