NFC West Champs!!!
The Seahawks did it! NFC champs for the fourth year in a row, and they did it in convincing fashion picking apart the Cardinals 42-21. It was an all-around great game for the Seahawks.
Let’s first start out with the offense. Matt Hasselbeck threw for a career high four touchdowns, while involving seven different receivers in the mix. Hasselbeck had over 180 yards passing in the first half alone. He finished the game with a quarterback rating of 131.6, which is the highest rating he has gotten all season. He led the Seahawks to scoring on their first four possessions of the game.
The running also had a good mix of spurts from Shaun Alexander and Maurice Morris as well. For the second week in a row, the Seahawks relied on both running backs to maintain balance within the offense. They ran for a combined 74 yards on 23 carries, which kept the Arizona defense constantly guessing on the Seahawks’ next move.
The defense also was outstanding today. They not only had five sacks, but also five interceptions as well. Patrick Kearney, how the hell did we get this guy? If Kurt Warner didn’t know who Kearney’s name at the start of the game, he definitely knows it now. Kearney sacked him three times and was in his face on almost every other play.
And if the defensive line couldn’t stop the Cardinals, the defensive backs literally had their backs. Apparently Marcus Trufant needed to match Lofa Tatupu’s three interception performance last week. He picked off Warner at three crucial times in the second half when the Cardinals were attempting to crawl back into the game. Trufant even took one to the house after an 84-yard interception return.
The Seahawks have won five games in a row and during this time the defense has really been able to establish themselves as a good defensive team. The Seahawks have had 11 interceptions in the last three games alone, and they have sacked opposing quarterbacks 15 times during their winning streak.
With the win today, the Seahawks are now guaranteed at least one home game, and there are still three games remaining on their schedule. Playing against three sub-par teams, the Seahawks have the opportunity to build more momentum in these next few weeks before the start of the second season.
For starting off the season 4-4, who ever thought that the Seahawks would have the chance to finish the season with an eight-game winning streak and an impressive 12-4 record?
