Raiders Interested In Jackson

John Clayton of ESPN reports that the Raiders are considering signing defensive tackle Grady Jackson.

This comes after signing Kalimba Edwards last week. If Oakland was able to ink Jackson, than they wouldn’t have to move defensive end Tommy Kelly to tackle, pretty much ending their pursuit of defensive linemen.

If this were to happen, than in the draft, they could focus on other areas of need such as running back in the first round. Instead of taking someone like Glenn Dorsey, they could get Darren McFadden, who should be there at number four, or an offensive lineup, such as Jake Long if he’s there.

Even though if he were to sign with Oakland Jackson would be the number three tackle, he’d still help the Raiders greatly with his run stopping abilities, which they need. He’s not much of a pass rusher, but at three hundred forty-five pounds, he’s fill up the holes . They need to get someone to do this, and the veteran Jackson would do a solid job.

Kelly is a natural DT, it wouldbe stupid to move him back to DE.

Sign Grady, then give the turd his walking papers unless he can beat out Grady in camp.Keep kelly at DT.

Sorry but your article completely misrepresents John Clayton’s spin on Grady Jackson. Clayton’s point was the Raiders ‘were’ comtemplating signing Jackson for the past week, however the signing of Kalimba Edwards puts the Raiders pursuit of Jackson to an end.

ANY future information on this site will be considered questionable.

CT, could acquisition of Grady be good training camp fodder?

I mean really I’m just asking. If he can be got reasonably priced would that not be a good competition?

I am merely speculating here bro coz.. I truly don’t know?!?!?!

CT, I’m incredibly sorry. With MLB Opening Day, I was kind of rushing with the NFL stories yesterday. I apologize, and will make sure to not make the same mistake again

Grady Jackson is good friends with DeAngelo Hall. I’m sure hall lobbied for Jackson as well as the fact jackson used to play for the Raiders. His play is not spectacular but he fills the middle well and will help the run game for now until the Raiders can get some good picks to fill that position. Kelly at end on run downs is a good fit. Versitility is the key here cause Rob Ryan love s alot of it. I heard the Raiders are in love with OLB Keith Rivers of USC. Rivers is a stud. If they are after him then there will definitely be a trade down. Look for McFadden to be a piece of the Raiders dealings on draft day. Al will either take DMC or trade the spot to the Jets or to New England who wants Gholston or DMC.

We already have a great corps of running backs. I would go with Jake Long if he is available, or trade down

Raiders need run stoppers and will sign and or draft a few this offseason. It has little bearing on Tommy Kelly who takes Sapps position in the 4-3 defense. Probably has little bearing on picking Mcfadden as the Raiders are stocked at running back unless they intend to use him more as a reciever. In the end, all their offseason moves don’t mean a thing if they don’t get a quality left tackle.

Mike & Joe Joe…great minds think alike because it is so obvious that we need not only an upgrade at LT but center as well. Trading down is the logical answer because the Raiders should grab Brandon Marshall to play LT, a WR like Devin Thomas and then a LB or DT.

If the price is right, sign him. We need a base DT who can stop the run.

A run stuffer would be nice considering we have to deal with LT and LJ twice a year. Don’t lose site of the fact that Cable has worked wonders with the O line. And Harris will do well in a zone blocking system because of his agility. He wasn’t a world beater in SF but will do a lot better in Oakland. A prototypical tackle like Jake Long won’t do as well in this system. Bring in DMC to take some pressure off of the passing game and let your young QB develop while forcing the opposing D to have to stop the run first. Hopefully, the Raiders won’t be in position to have a number 4 pick (read: franchise caliber player) for many years to come so use this opportunity to grab a player who can be a cornerstone of the franchise. A little naive to consider the acquisition of a “5″ technique DT directly effecting probably the deployment of the Raiders best “3″ technique DT. Kelley may serve some time @ DE in 2008; but @ the “base’ end, not RDE.

As far as what the Raiders draft plan is, well, tune in for the continuing saga. . . But, if not DT/DE, hopefully OLT (Ryan Clady, Chris Williams) and the possibility of addressing long term DE/DT witl project picks like Jason Jones of Eastern Michigan, a natural DE forced to play DT in college.

Man, I’m tired of hearing about McFadden. He was great in college but the Raiders can’t keep absorbing the early round contracts they’ve had in recent years–especially for a guy they don’t absolutely need. Trade down, draft well (always a question with the Raiders recently), and allow our running backs to settle in and do their jobs. Afterall we’ve got some decent backs and they can’t run if there aren’t any holes th run through.

Getting a run stuffing vet like Grady Jackson would be great! We could then release or trade DT Gerard Warren cuz he’s more of a penetrator and we don’t need that out of him. If we are truly trying to stop the run this year we should sign him in a heartbeat cuz he’s one of the best at stopping the run and would help our linebackers, and secondary out tremondously.

    P. Dorsey:
No problem (could happen to anyone…sorry for over-reacting). I do spend a lot of time on your site, but with the draft right around the corner I’ve been on the look out for ‘mis-information’.

The Grady Jackson move is one that I’ve been anticipating for some time. He played his butt off for the Jags last year and was a key contributor during their playoff run. If the raiders are truly looking to improve their run defense GRADY IS THE ANSWER.

Thats the beauty of DE/DT Tommy Kelly. Versatility. He could move out to play LE or DT if we need him to. I believe Kelly will be our starting LE this year anyways. With him at LE, Gerard Warren at DT, possibly Grady Jackson at NT, and Burgess or Edwards at RE. I think our run defense will be alot better this year. If u look at our defensive signings lately it seems to me that the Raiders are bringing in players that can play a 3-4 defense? Burgess may be on his way out, along with Fabian.

If the price is right, sign him. The more holes we can fill before the draft, the better. We need a run stuffer at the DT position more than anything else.

Nothing wrong with picking up Grady Jackson. You can’t run on him and it takes two to block him. With him we could cut our loses on Turdel Sands.

Very few sites like this talk about our need at Center. Oh for the days of smashers like Robbins. Unfortunately, don’t see anything on the horizon either in FA or the draft. Don’t seem to hear the Raider organization talking about the need either. Am i missing something? Any insights? Am in Afghanistan presently but hope to be home in Atlanta for the opener against the donkeys

Speak of the devil… Just saw that… seems like a solid acquistion. Be intersting to see what Raiders do with the draft regarding center.
