Packers Looking For QB’s;Interested In Feeley, Losman
The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that rumors have been going around the NFL Owner Meetings that the Packers are interested in quarterbacks AJ Feeley of the Eagles and JP Losman of the Bills. The team is looking for a back-up after Brett Farve’s retirement, and has most likely missed out on Gus Frerotte.
Both of these players could be on the trade block.
Feeley is no longer needed in Philadelphia, as the team still has Donovan McNabb and feels comfortable with Kevin Kolb. The thirty year old Feeley would be a solid veteran back-up option, as he could help develop Aaron Rodgers.
Losman, on the other hand, is less available. He’s penciled in as the number two quarterback behind Trent Edwards, but he could easily become the starter again. Edwards showed some promise last season, but this is only his second season, and the Bills may want to keep Losman for insurance purposes. The twenty seven year old hasn’t progressed as Buffalo thought he would, and therefore has stripped of his job. He’d certainly like to be traded, but it doesn’t appear as though the Bills are listening. If Rodgers was incapable of starting for whatever reason, Losman would be a decent back-up starting option.
Its clear that the Packers need and will get someone to back Rodgers up. Feeley is probably the most realistic and therefore likely option, but some guys still left on the free agent market such as Aaron Brooks are possibilities.
