Vikings Agree With Frerotte
John Clayton of ESPN reports that as expected, the Vikings have agreed with free agent quarterback Gus Frerotte. The deal will be more than one year, and we don’t have word on how much it will be for.
The thirty six year old might be worn out after playing in eight games last year for the Rams. He still has some throwing ability left, and will bring a veteran presence, though.
So, Minnesota has now filled one of their top offseason priorities, which was finding a veteran back-up for Tavaris Jackson.
However, this is a disappointing signing for the Vikings, as they hoped to acquire Sage Rosenfels of Houston, but found that he was unavailable. He was an ideal option, with him knowing the west coast offense and having the ability to start games if the inconsistent Jackson was unable to do so.
Frerotte, on the other hand, may not be able to start games. He’s pretty smart, but starting to run out of gas. Minnesota may consider drafting another quarterback in the fifth or sixth round of the draft.
