Broncos & Robertson Have Deal In Place
Newsday reports that the Broncos and Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson have already worked out a deal. Denver has been interested in acquiring him all offseason.
New York no longer needs or wants him after trading for Kris Jenkins, as he doesn’t fit well in their 3-4 and has become a little bit of a distraction.
The Broncos want him to shore up their awful run defense and improve the tackle position. They’ll likely get some defensive end help in the draft for the pass rush, but acquiring Robertson would help them a lot.
The only hurdle in this trade would be the contract, as it was way too large for Robertson’s low production. Many thought that Denver wouldn’t be willing to give him anything considering his bad knee, but it looks like the two sides were able to work something out.
This pretty much means that sooner or later Robertson will be a Bronco. He’ll likely be traded for a fourth or fifth round pick near the draft, which will suit both teams just fine.
Also, when the Jets complete this deal, they’ll be able to resign Hank Poteat, according to the New York Daily News, whom will give them more depth.

Perceptions are funny. Denver rush defense was 30th in the NFL but improved somewhat as the year went along. The Jets defense was 29th. Maybe we should just call their’s bad. Denver tried changing defensive schemes which they went away from after the first several weeks. They also had two season ending injuries and a three rookies on the DL.
Adding Robertson is a good move for the Broncos as long as they don’t tie up too much money considering the injury risk. I still expect a DT to be picked in the first few rounds. If this report come true then Denver will have addressed every defensive position of weakness. The other early picks may focus on the OL and WR positions. Also the Broncos will probably draft a kicker and a punter in the last few rounds and add LB’s for depth.

I think Denver should have let the picks from last year ride this year. Lots of youth and injury last year, this year if they can avoid the injury bug, they have talent at D-line, they just need to gel as a line.
Robertson could be a great player, but in true Bronco Management style, they will over pay for him on the long shot he can finally live up to his potential. Here is to hoping they get it right this time.

furious, I actually don’t think that they’ll overpay money-wise for him. They know about his knee, and almost killed the deal because of it. Maybe Robertson realizes that he’ll eventually be cut, and takes a pay cut to go to Denver

Business as usual for the Bronco’s.
This guy will turn out like the rest of the washed up underachieving bums the Bronco’s signed to the DL the last 5 years.
