Gholston Will Visit Dolphins
The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reports that in addition to Jake Long, the Dolphins will also be talking with the representatives of Vernon Gholston this week. Some reports had Miami not even planning to visit with the former Ohio State defensive end.
Glenn Dorsey and Chris Long will also visit, with Matt Ryan also still being a possibility.
As we found out yesterday, whomever Miami can agree to prior to the actual draft will be who they select. That may require players to not get as paid as high as they’d want to be to ensure that they’re the number one pick. It makes it impossible to know who the Dolphins favor and who they’ll get.
As I said yesterday, I believe that they like Chris Long more than anyone else. However, he may demand a very high contract, as if he doesn’t go number one, he won’t slip far. Jake Long might be a more realistic possibility, as he could slip to the fifth pick if Miami doesn’t select him.
Gholston doesn’t have the talent that either of the Longs do, but he’s shown the ability to play both end and outside linebacker, and in a 3-4 like the Dolphins are, thats an important quality. Chris Long is probably capable of doing that, but they aren’t sure. He could be a dark-horse, as I just have a feeling that he’ll be cooperative in negotiations.
