Kelly To Work Out Once More……………With No Scouts
A couple of days after bombing his pro-day and blaming the Oklahoma staff for it, receiver Malcolm Kelly is partaking in yet another bizarre move. Hashmarks of ESPN.com reports that Kelly will have a workout on Sunday, trying to improve his draft status after hurting it badly. That doesn’t sound abnormal, but here’s the odd thing: no scouts will be allowed to watch.
Instead, Boyd Dowler, former Packers receiver, will be recording the results and send them through videos and written reports to all NFL teams. Ya, thats kind of strange.
Honestly, I just don’t see what Kelly is thinking here. Scouts can’t stand it when they can’t see prospects live and in person, and won’t like having to give a guy a second chance via reports from a possibly biased individual in Dowler. Why not just let them in?
Kelly may even be further damaging where he goes in the draft because of scouts not liking this. Teams will have to question if he’s a possible distraction for their team. Supposedly, he’s a nice, normal guy, but not in this instance or the one at his pro-day. If I’m a team, I’m wondering if this guy is mentally stable(just kidding).
In my opinion, any possibility of him going in the late first round is virtually gone. In fact, its entirely possible that only one receiver goes so early, if any. He’ll still be an early second rounder, but its obviously not what he wants.
