Ravens Acquire Washington

A guy that hasn’t been talked about being on the block much, Fabian Washington of the Raiders, has just been traded to the Ravens for their fourth round pick.

Washington, just twenty-four, has always had potential, being quick and good at staying with receivers. He’s very inconsistent, though, and needs more experience before he can start.

Still, a great trade for Baltimore. They have two starting corners right now, Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle, in their thirties. Washington should eventually take over for one, if he can get the right coaching and a chance at playing the nickel over Corey Ivy.

With his potential, Baltimore got an absolute steal just giving up a fourth rounder. He might be a top NFL corner one day, if he can stay focused and develop his many skills.

For the Raiders, this is pretty much what they were expecting to get, a fourth rounder. While he obviously has the talent, teams aren’t willing to give up anything more for a player that still needs to work on his game. Oakland needed to trade him with an excess of corners after the Hall trade, and they did, so they should be fairly happy.

He can’t cover anybody and he will not tackle anybody. Another Al Davis pick speed over talent bust. Good to see him off the team

Tyvon Branch is a safety project and will be a very good special teams player..that’s why.

Davis should give away all of his (yes, his, not Oaklands. He doesn’t listen to anyone) draft picks and put Raider fans out of a painful torture treatment. He is an idiot.

I thought the washington trade was inevidable, but didn’t get what I expected as far as the pick was concerned. I felt like we were in excellent position to move up and draft a guy like early ducet or mario manningham.

    Charles,

Washington is a veteran who they’re paying a good amount of money.

Branch is a rookie to fill out spots and provide depth

Great move, it was coming anyway. Washington had no roll and when he did have a chance to play he was underwhelming. People who don’t understand Mr. Davis’ drafts and trades do not know football and might want to cull their name calling and keep it to football talk so that their ignorance is better concealed. Branch will be culled as a safty and will see a bit of time in the dime.
Go Raiders, nice offseason and draft.

Although the past 5 years have been very painful it is because of those years that the Raiders,

Have a franchise QB with great potential and can solidify the position for years to come.

Have what will be a Superstar 21 year old RB with great young depth at the position.

A Pro Bowl caliber young TE and a revamped WR core.

Add two young elite CB’s, good young Pro Bowl caliber LB’s and improvement at the safety position,

The 2008 year will be remembered as the year the Raiders rose from the ashes as they are being built to win for years to come.

When this team hits it’s stride either this year or next people will then realize what Al Davis has done.

With a Championship team that had been checked into an old folks home just 5 years ago Al Davis is put together what can become a great young team.

As for Washington he will make a very good CB with time but with the way Routt has come on and getting the 24 year old Hall mad him expendable.

Maverick pretty much said it all. Good to see a comment from somone who isn’t stupid enough to think they know more than Al Davis.
