Joe Flacco to miss Raven camp because of … school
Quarterback Joe Flacco will miss the Baltimore Ravens voluntary minicamp at the end of May, according to a story by Jamison Hensley at The Baltimore Sun.
“Because of a long-standing NFL- NCAA rule, Flacco will miss a four-day passing camp at the end of May and will not return to Ravens headquarters until after May 30, the last day of exams at the University of Delaware.”
This rule, that came with the encouragement of the American Football Coaches Association, is in place to encourage the student-athlete to complete his education before moving on to his professional life. It can work to the detriment of the individual. The University of Delaware, Flacco’s school, graduates 80 percent of its football players. Flacco, however, has withdrawn from school.
The rookie quarterback will report to two passing camps in June and is expected to report to Ravens training camp in July.
