Second arrest in Javon Walker assault case
The Associated Press reports that the Las Vegas Police have arrested a second person for the beating of Oakland Raider wide receiver Javon Walker last month.
Deshawn L. Thomas, 40, was arrested Monday on charges of abducting, beating and robbing Walker. No further details were provided about the suspect.
Javon Walker was found unconscious in a Las Vegas street on June 16. He suffered a concussion and damage to his eye socket and a fractured jaw.
Arfat Fadel was arrested in late June as a suspect in the Walker assault. His bail was set at $73,000.
The Oakland Raiders expressed confidence that Walker would join the team for training camp later this month, but they’ve been mum on his health.
Football is a brutal contact sport and concussion is a risk factor. Players who have suffered concussions are prone to repeated injury. That has to be worrisome to the Raiders medical staff.
Walker is recovering from facial fractures suffered during his attack. Medical treatment often requires surgery depending on the severity of the damage, according to emedicinehealth.com.
Javon Walker may be in camp to prepare for the season. Whether he’s full go, or not, remains a question for Oakland fans. I think there will be issues there.
There is solace for Walker in the arrest of the men who ruined his Vegas weekend.
