Rosenhaus to the rescue

If there’s something strange
in your neighborhood,
who ya gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS.

If there’s something weird
and it don’t look good,
who ya gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS.

If your contract sucks
and you need more food,
who ya gonna call? DREW ROSENHAUS

~~ From GHOSTBUSTERS, with apologies to Ray Parker, Jr.

When NFL players don’t like their deal, they always look for the specialist in “do-overs,” Drew Rosenhaus.

Eagletarian reports that Philadelphia defensive back Lito Shappard has retained Rosenhaus as his new agent in hopes of redoing his 2004 contract extension, or finding a new team.

The Eagles boosted the secondary this offseason with the addition of free agent Asante Samuel on a six year $57 million deal.

Ouch! that hurts on two counts, to lose your job to some guy paid twice as much as you. Sheppard signed an eight year $26 million deal in 2004.

The Eagles shopped Sheppard around and gave him permission to strike a trade deal with another team. Sheppard is still with Philadelphia. So, either no one wanted him, or no one wanted him for Asante Samuel money, or no one offered up enough value to entice Philly.

Who ya gonna call? Rosenhaus, who worked that sweet deal with Oakland for Javon Walker.

As with his other unhappy clients, Rosenhaus says Sheppard will report to Eagles training camp when it opens later this month. It’s hard to strike a bargain with an owner not named Jerry Jones when the client refuses to perform.

The Eagles are in no hurry to lose Sheppard. NFC teams are scrambling to build AFC caliber offenses and the NFC East is closest as a division to meeting that standard. The New York Giants upset the team with the prototypical AFC offense in the Super Bowl.

If you don’t have three or four starting level d-backs in your secondary, you are just going to get killed when you play passing teams like Dallas or Arizona, both on Philadelphia’s schedule this year.

The Eagles are in no hurry to lose Sheppard.

No apology necessary. That was fantastic.
