49er’s lock up Balmer

ESPN’s John Calyton is reporting that the 49er’s have signed first-round pick Ketwan Balmer to a five-year deal. The new contract will pay the defensive lineman $11.5 million, $6 million being guaranteed.

Even though he played defensive tackle at North Carolina, San Francisco may opt to begin Balmer’s career with him playing defensive end, then moving him over to nose tackle.  He shouldn’t start right away, but he will get playing time in the line’s rotation.
