Jets, Baker talking
In Newsday, Jets’ tight end Chris Baker talked about the negotiations between his agent and the team:
“At least the two sides are talking. At least they’re talking and that’s a good thing, as opposed to a month and a half ago when there wasn’t much of anything.”
About two months ago, Baker said some strong words, as he was very unhappy with the Jets’ refusal to even talk about a new contract. However, he appears to be fine now, which is good for New York, as he won’t be causing a problem.
As to where these negotiations will lead to, there are a few possibilities. Baker could be rewarded for his good play with a new deal. The Jets could also trade him, not needing him after taking Dustin Keller with their first-round pick and signing Bubba Franks. Baker clearly wants to continue to play in New York, but I’m not sure if the Jets want him.
Baker also confirmed that he would be back on the field soon, and was not faking the injury out of spite. His back was tweaked during minicamp practices. Even with Keller and Franks being on-board, the Jets still need him this season, because we all know about some quarterbacks on the team(cough, Chad, cough) not being able to throw the ball downfield well.
