Cowher’s Decision to Come Monday
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Bill Cowher will return to Pittsburgh and make an announcement about his future Monday, on the future of his time in the Steel City.
Fans, players and even the Rooney’s are expecting Cowher to resign from the job that he has held for 15 years.
No press conference has been scheduled by the Steelers, but Cowher has told several people he will come back from Raleigh, N.C. and announce his decision Monday.
Cowher drove to Raleigh Tuesday after meeting with team chairman Dan Rooney and president Art Rooney II. He has one year remaining on his contract, but he has told friends and associates he wants to spend more time with his family.
In the meantime, offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, one of the leading candidates to replace Cowher, interviewed this morning with the Atlanta Falcons and owner Arthur Blank. Also later in the week Russ Grim is scheduled to interview for the vacant Arizona Cardinals job.

I really hope Bill stays. But if he does leave, Wisenhunt would fit in well. If Bill comes back, I don’t think there is any chance that Wisenhunt stays like he did last year. I could see turning down a dreary Raiders team, but not the Dolphins, Falcons, or even Cardinals. Same goes for Russ Grimm as well.

I think that he is gone, might come back and coach his final year, sort of a swan song run to the title ala Bus. Of course, that will mean that we may lose one or both of our assistants. Most likely Whisenhunt, because Grimm is already the asst. head coach and is waiting in the wings for 2008.
I didn’t know who the hell Cowher was but quickly into his first season he proved that he was a legit coach. Thru the years he has proven to be one of the best coaches in the NFL. I wish him well if he leaves and will always consider coach Cowher a Steeler.

What ever his decision, I will respect it. Coaching can be tough on the the family.I left my career after 17 years to be with mine. The first words from my wife was ” I have my husband back”. Besides look around, there is no better franchise than the STEELERS, and to be a part of that is something that he believed in and kept the “steeler nation” alive. Thanks ,Bill

I am almost 40 and I have only known two coaches for my team that had the same collors as my local High School as a kid when I started really watching football (then they won 4 Superbowls). It is going to be very weird seeing anyone else on that sideline. I know that family is very important to Bill and I admire him for making that level of commitment to them as well as what he has given both the team and us fans over the years. However, I would love to see him stay at least one more year wil Ben so Bill can get Ben’s head back in the game and then win one more for the other hand!
I feel very strongly that if Bill would give these young guys one more year then will pull it together and give him one more champianship season.
