Thoughts on Steelers’ Pro Bowl selections

The NFL Network just announced Pro Bowl rosters, and five Steelers made the cut. Here they are, with some quick thoughts on the selections:

- Ben Roethlisberger, reserve: This isn’t that surprising. He’s having his best statistical season and has shown he can win big games with little help. I hope this gets his name mentioned among the elite QBs. It drives me crazy that people fall all over themselves to praise Tony Romo while Ben only gets passing mention. To all sports writers - Super Bowl victories: Ben 1, Tony 0. Enough said.

-Willie Parker, reserve: A good choice, although I’m surprised Fred Taylor didn’t take his spot after Sunday’s game. Parker started strong, struggled for a bit, but got his 100 yards last week. He’s quietly become one of the better backs in the league.

- Alan Faneca, starter: Will this be enough for the Steelers to open their pocketbooks and pay him what he deserves? Doubtful.

- James Harrison, starter:  He sealed his spot in the Monday night game against the Ravens. What an individual performance.

- Troy Polamalu, reserve: I can’t help but think Polamalu got his spot based on reputation rather than on-field performance. It’s true that he changes the way offenses play, so even if he isn’t making a tackle, he’s affecting the game. Still, he missed three games and didn’t look that great on Sunday. Oh well, good for him anyway.

Troy is the Steelers best player my friend. He is a true football player. The best since Rod Woodson.

I have to fully disagree with the polamalu observation.
He did have an excellent sunday. Did u see him flying to the football on numerous occasions, making tackles all over the field, disrupting plays?
yeah he got double/tripled team in the second half, and yet our defense wasnt able to exploit that “advantage”. That can’t be his fault!

Troy is a great player, but by no means was having a Pro-Bowl Type year. I would have to put Ed Reed and Bob Sanders of the AFC in front of him this year.

I have to agree with the Daves… I love Polamalu (heck, I have his jersey) but there’s no way he’s having a Pro Bowl season… a big reason is because he’s been injured and missing games, but also I believe we’ve lost most of the games we’ve lost with him in our line-up so to say he’s been a difference maker on our team this year would be untrue. I think he’ll have a better year next year if he can stay healthy.

Lets take into account an overlooked PRO BOWL individual for the Steelers: Heath Miller (TE)

Miller should of made the pro bowl selection this year.
…7 Touchdowns and counting….not done yet! Definitely a key GO-TO-Guy for the steelers offense this year! …..Polamalu (very good) but has been hurt alot this year.
Steeler suggestion: Lets start using more of DAVENPORT (RB) …..everytime this guy gets an opportunity to produce….He Does! He is BIG, STRONG and can move…..Just like BETTIS! Short yardage…..GOAL LINE…..TOUCHDOWN!
