Busy in the ‘Burgh: Steelers sign RB Moore
Get used to spelling and saying it: your likely starter returning kicks and punts is Mewelde (Muh-WELL-day) Moore, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings and a fairly recent acquaintance of coach Mike Tomlin, who was the Vikes’ defensive coordinator before coming to Pittsburgh.
Moore will likely compete for the returner position with another recent acquisition, Jeremy Bloom. Bloom was a track star before becoming an NFL wide receiver. The two could become excellent complements to one another on kick returns, with a fast, quick threat on both sides of the field.
Moore will also have the chance to compete for the third-down running back position. At 5′-11″ and 209 pounds, he certainly is not the bruiser many fans have called for this off-season, but he does provide a speed upgrade to the guys behind Parker, and has a good special teams stat line, producing two punt-return touchdowns in his four seasons. He’s also a very good receiver, making him a nice fit on third downs.
Terms have not yet been disclosed.

Bloom was an Olympic Skier

Bloom was an Olympic caliber skier, but was also a track star at U of CO. I understand he also could have been a track Olympian but chose skiing instead. I hope that translates into being able to handle 11 men rumbling at him on KR’s and PR’s. He’s failed to make two other NFL clubs, so I am glad we got Moore.

There is nothing striking about Mewelde’s tenure with the Vikings. Jeremy tore a ham string in training camp with the Eagles, supposedly healed by wk 5 but never played a game. The Bronco’s gave him a workout prior to his signing with the Steelers.
St Pierre has been released and Batch has about out lived his usefulness. Look for some action in the QB area.

Bloom was a two time olympic freestyle mogul skier and also spent 2 yrs with the colorado buffs returning kicks punts and as a receiver . The team had two future nfl receivers but he still managed to get double teamed. He was signed on with philly eagles torn a hamstring coming straight from the olympics and 5 days later running in the nfl combine the next yr he averaged about 20 on kick retuns and 10 on punt returns with no real blocking and he did it with a screwed up toe which is now fine..He won the battle of superstars a few yrs ago and I believe he will make a really good receiver (slot receiver)he has beyind incredible work ethic and lives to play in a team enviroment hes a world class act and a great fit for the steelers . My bad on Bloom. I knew he had been a track star in the past and got the two screwed up. Thanks for the corrections, guys!
