Steelers’ first rounder Mendenhall robbed at gunpoint in Chicago

Rashard Mendenhall is not having a very good week.

Mendenhall, home in Chicago, was walking along the south side city lakefront at 2 a.m. when two men wearing hoodies and ski-masks robbed Mendenhall at gunpoint, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The two perps attacked Mendenhall, robbing him of a cell phone, his wallet and some cash.

According to the Sun-Times, Mike McCartney, Mendenhall’s agent said,

“It was obviously a scary moment, but he is fine. He is doing great. He said he doesn’t have anything that is worth his life.”

Mendenhall, who suffered a strained hamstring during his first Steelers mini-camp practice this past weekend, isn’t due back in Pittsburgh until May 16th. Hopefully it will be in one piece.

I haven’t heard that he was drinking…or doing anything…other than walking with a friend.

On the outside looking in, walking around Chicago with a pal at 2 a.m. doesn’t sound all that smart…

but if he was coming from a party…at least he wasn’t driving.

I wouldn’t look too much into it. This isn’t Chris Henry we’re talking about.

Hey, it’s the South Side of Chicago. He got off easy. Same place that gave us Barack Obama and all those crackpots that he has either had to disown, or hire to run his campaign, depending on whether they have been caught doing anything illegal yet.

Tommy is right - Jay needs to mellow out a bit. I went to school on the south side of Chicago and walked around at 2am all the time, as did nearly every student at my college. Tommy is also right that people don’t go out until 11pm - just like in New York or any other big city. If there’s no indication that the kid was doing anything wrong, then I don’t see why anyone should get worked up about it.

    Hey,
It still comes down to making the right choices and taking note of the areas you frequent. The guy has set himself up to be a millionaire playing sports. Be more mindful of what you are doing….discipline. Don’t want to take a chance at ruining your careeer. He certainly has a good one in front of him.

So…I wonder which Bengal from the Play-Doh Felon Factory is responsible for this one… ;)

Way to jump to conclusions and accuse the guy of something you know nothing about.

He was simply walking with a female friend along the waterfront when he was robbed. Last I heard there is no crime for walking. He wasn’t doing anything wrong. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He’s in his early 20s, of course he was out at 2am. You gotta remember these guys are just kids. I was out much past 2am when I was 21 or 22. So were most of the other people posting or reading this blog.

I also love the Obama slamming on a football blog. Can we keep the politics to a politics related blog?

HE MAY HAVE NOT BEEN DOING ANYTHING WRONG. BUT THIS IS STILL NOT A WAY TO START YOUR PRO FOOTBALL CAREER. AS GOOD AS THIS GUY SEEMS TO BE, THERE ARE ALOT OF 20 YEAR OLDS AT HOME WATCHING MOVIES TOO.

What stupid muggers - they should’ve waited until AFTER he signed his contract!

    Is 2AM late?

Barack Obama fundraisers working the late shift. They need some extra cash to spring their boss Tony Rezko from jail.

you guys are nuts… he is just a kid doing what kids do, i still hang out til 2am and I am in my 40s. He isn’t the issue, crime is the issue. It just so happens it was at 2am. In most large cities crimes occur at anytime.
It could have been twelve noon and you guys would be saying he should eat lunch at home.

Its not his fault he is the victim, the people who robbed him are the ones at fault.
