Benji Olson announces his retirement
The Titans’ old offensive line, which we were familiar with for years, has lost its last stalwart. We were used to seeing Bruce Matthews, Brad Hopkins, Zach Piller and Benji Olson on the field for years. Now, after ten seasons in the NFL, Benji Olson has announced his retirement.
It’s something which has been expected, but sad to see nonetheless.
Olson’s recurring back problems caused him to play less and less, especially in 2007. It wasn’t hard to see that if Olson did come back for another season, it wouldn’t be for sixteen games.
He and Piller were two reliable and consistent guards in the last ten years and it was hard to mention one without the other. You knew exactly what you were going to get out of them and they delivered. They were the starting guards when Eddie George was still a 1,000 yard rusher and then helped paved the way for Chris Brown and Travis Henry to accomplish the same. The pair had some memorable battles against the Jaguars’ Henderson and Stroud, not to mention some against the Ravens.
Olson had become a modern version of Steve McNair, missing practice during the week to rest his back and enabling him to play, usually, on Sundays. Now that I think about it, Olson missed less games due to injury than McNair did, and Steve was a warrior.
So was Benji. I’ll always remember him for his contributions to the Titans.
Now we move on with Kevin Mawae, Michael Roos, David Stewart, Eugene Amano and Jake Scott. I like them but somehow it’s not quite the same anymore.

With this news, guard in the draft becomes a high priority because I am not very confident in the back ups looper and amano. maybe pick up Eric Young from Tenn. in the 3rd round.

At least we’ve still got Hentrich hanging strong

It’s definitely a sad day for all Titans fans but, it’s a new day none the less. I just hope the young guys we have on the O-line can play with the same type of grit, resilience, and durability that Benjii played with for ten years. I wouldn’t consider guard a top priority with the addition of Jake Scott, and guys like Leroy Harris and Eugene Amano already on the roster but it definitely should be addressed in rounds 4 or 5.

Now that Benji is sadly gone I can know post my Titans mock draft. The extra third-round pick is assuming that we get a third round pick for Pac-Man.
1. Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
2. Chilo Richal, G, USC
3. Donnie Avery, WR, Houston
3. Tyvon Branch, CB, UCONN
4. DeMario Pressley, DT, NC State
5. Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia
7. Rudolph Hardie, DE, Howard
If we get another 7th Round pick then….
7. Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon

Wow, there are way tooooo many assumptions in ur mock draft. Plus, alot of those players will not be there when we pick like Dixon, slaton and Pressley so way too many holes in that. Plus, Donnie Avery is a wasted pick imo with a third round pick.

Congrats to benji–great career.
On the draft picks…I will not be convinced otherwise ..the Titans will take Sweed if he is there. Now unless there is a real playmaker sitting there at number 2 ( possible), I dont see them going back to that position unless its late ( 5th or 7th).
My thinking is that 2.3.4 will be something like DB,DE, RB ( no order). I think they may pick up a OG project after the 4th.
This draft lends itself to some guys possible “falling in their lap”. I respect you guys for making mock picks–but I will be waiting till mid-april for the rankings. And the pacman trade:)

The young guys will fill this hole nicely. No need to go looking for an immediate replacement unless another veteran becomes available for a decent price. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see a versatile veteran backup added to the roster before the season starts.

I know my draft is kind of a dream draft but I think about 4 of my picks are possible.

Nobody here likes Devin Thomas outta Michigan State? I like Sweed but, Thomas can serve as a kick returner and be a full time starter. We had tremendous success with another Michigan State Spartan at WR. I forgot his name though…I think it was Mason something?

Have you guys heard about the titans making an offer to Chris Carr. He played for Oakland. I know he is not a great player, but he can help us return kicks and provide depth at corner. So maybe we don’t need to address corner in the draft. So we could take Dre Moore in the third and Slaton or Kevin Smith in the fourth.
