Titans take Eastern Michigan DE Jason Jones in 2nd round

Continuing a theme begun with 1st round pick Chris Johnson, the Titans continued to head east, taking Eastern Michigan DE Jason Jones with their second round pick, 54th overall, in the 2008 NFL Draft.

It’s not surprising to see Jones become a Titan, as both Drexel and I chose him in mock drafts we recently did. He played out of position at defensive tackle his senior year, but will be an end in the NFL. He apparently had a great day against Michigan this year, giving the Wolverines a lot of problems.

What I find most interesting is the range where he’d been picked in the NFLDraft101 mocks: anywhere from where he was chosen to the Colts’ pick at the end of the 3rd round. And, if you look above, you see that Drexel had him as the Titans’ 2nd round pick and I got him in the 3rd round. Rick Gosselin, the respected writer for the Dallas Morning News had him 67th on his top 100. I think the Titans probably took him 10-15 picks too early, but that’s not his fault. I expect him to be a solid part of the defensive end rotation, and am looking forward to see him in in a Titans uniform.

Everywhere I’ve read, Jones has been described as a hard worker with a great attitude. He’s also a former basketball player, which demonstrates his athletic ability.

He has some upside and with Washburn’s coaching, I think he can be a good player down the road. Vanden Bosch and Kearse aren’t getting any younger, so it made sense to draft a guy who can be a future starter at DE.

Along with Tom, I am also looking forward to seeing what this guy can do in a Titan uniform.

WHO CARES? I AM ALREADY FED UP WITH THIS CRAP!!! THE TITANS NEEDED TO PICK A WR WHEN THEY HAD THEIR PICK OF THE LITTER IN ROUND 1. NOW ON THE BRIGHT SIDE EARLY DOUCET, ANDRE CALDWELL, AND EARL BENNET ARE ALL STILL AVAILABLE. WHO KNOWS MAYBE THE TITANS KNOW SOMETHING WE DON’T. MAYBE THEIR IS A SLEEPER THAT WILL BE THE BEST THING SINCE JERRY RICE, BUT I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THAT. ANYWAY I AM GOING TO LET OUT MY FRUSTRATION AND HOPE FOR A BETTER DAY TOMMOROW.

Come on, Brad. Sure a lot of people wanted a Wide out in the first, and yeah, we had our choice of picks. But Titans fans know that the heads in Nashville are old school and don’t feel like the great WR picks are necessarily the most visible college players. Our high school coach used to go on and on about how high school is only two steps from the pros. I knew then as I do now that those are two big damn steps and you cant see who’s going to be good at the next level very clearly.

Lets show some faith in the front office and realize that if they can turn Johnson into a Westbrook, then maybe we can change up the whole offensive play book.

First Brad please find the caps lock key. Second realize that the Titans draft couldn’t have gone better if we pull of a decent receiver on day two or make a trade for a proven receiver(prefered). Picking a reciever early in a class that obviously didn’t have the class would have been a mistake. If a Calvin Johnson or Tim Brown would have been available then I wouldn’t stick to this but that wasn’t the situation. Think about what they gained, possibly the best receiving back in the draft to allow VY the an outlet in his young career. That added to the pounding running game could give the Titans an offense that will put enough points on the board to win games and burn the clock like Fisher does. He is not a west coast/spread the field guy.

Taking Jason Jones in the second round was probably a reach for him but it is predicted that he can stop the run and that is what we need. I would have loved to see a run stopping DT get picked up but maybe they can slide one in the later rounds that steps up. They will get the receiver, the one that can make the big play when we need it but anything other than that doesn’t fit this type of offense. I’m a die hard fan and I’m loving the draft so far.

We just scored the best CAL receiver in the draft as a late 4th rounder, we picked up a great back to compliment the running game. We scored a good DE to back up the steller D Line and maybe most importantly we picked up the top blocking TE in the draft. This guy is Frank Jr. and they will use him like that and all the nay sayers will be eating their words. Watch and learn why Fisher is GOD in the draft and why all they guys advising are not coaching.
