10 Random Statements About the Vikings
Since there is still a complete lack of Vikings news to discuss, I thought it’d be cool to blatantly steal an excellent idea from Joe Caporoso, MVN’s Jets blogger. Joe recently decided to post 20 random statements about the Jets — I’ve decided to do the same (although I’ll only do 10 statements, since I have Twins tickets for tonight):
1. I’m going to do something quite ballsy when my next paycheck comes in. I’m going to the nearest Vikings Locker Room store to buy a jersey — but not a jersey you’d expect a Vikings fan to purchase. I won’t be buying an AD jersey, nor will I be buying a Jared Allen Jersey. Not Bernard Berrian, not Pat/Kevin Williams, not Chester Taylor, and not Darren Sharper. No, I’ll be laying down my hard-earned cash for a Tarvaris Jackson jersey.
I fully expect to be savaged in the comments section for this decision. But someone’s gotta show their support for T-Jack, right? And yes, once I make my purchase, I’ll be posting pictures to prove that I actually went through with this.
2. I can’t remember which media personality stated that Brad Childress always looks like he needs a blood transfusion, but a quick Google search for Chilly pictures proves what a brilliant observation that was. (Look here, here, and here.)
3. I plan to attend a couple days of training camp this season (maybe a practice session and a scrimmage), and I’ll be thoroughly disappointed if Chilly isn’t wearing his safari hat again this year. Last year, he looked like he should have been driving a Jeep through the jungles of Madagascar, not coaching a professional football team.
4. Speaking of heading off to camp, this will almost certainly be Leslie Frazier’s final training camp with the Vikes. Personally, I’d be stunned if he didn’t receive an offer to become a head coach following the season — and frankly, come 2009, he’ll probably deserve a chance at a head coaching gig.
5. I always have to laugh when the television cameras focus on Frazier during the course of a game; he’s gotta be one of the most stoic coaches in the league.
6. The Brett Favre can’t-quite-decide-what-I’m-gonna-do drama has gotta put a smile on your face, doesn’t it? The more turmoil that occurs in Green Bay during the months leading up to the season, the better off the Vikings will be. Simple as that. Here’s hoping that the Favre speculation drags on for the foreseeable future.
7. Of course, it would be much preferred if Favre continued to hold his squad in limbo but ultimately decided to hang things up for good. You’ve gotta wonder about the psychological effect that would have on a young quarterback’s confidence — that is, not knowing what his role would be for the season. I’d imagine Darren Sharper is salivating at the prospect of facing a rattled Aaron Rogers on week one of the season.
8. At Pro Football Talk, Mike Florio reports that Kelly Campbell is having himself a good season in the CFL. The former Viking wide receiver is playing for the Edmonton Eskimos, and caught eight passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns in his team’s victory on Thursday night. On another note, the team’s cheerleaders are the skimpiest-dressing Eskimos I’ve ever seen.
9. A fairly recent addition to the Vikings’ blogosphere that came to my attention within the past few days: Be sure to check out Jason’s musings on the Purple at Defensive Indifference!
10. Finally, a bit of site news. First of all, if you’re interested in becoming a contributor here at Vikings War Cry, drop me a line at NFLatMVN@aol.com. New voices are always a good thing! For that matter, if you’re interested in blogging about a team besides the Vikings, also feel free to send me an email (in case you weren’t aware, I’m the director of NFL coverage here at MVN…so if you want to join our team of NFL bloggers, I’m your guy).
Secondly, you can now access the site at vikingswarcry.com. So yeah, we finally got a domain name. And lastly, VWC will be receiving a site makeover soon…we’ll be adding a bunch of new features, as well as a brand new design. These changes will hopefully be coming within the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

I think Frazier will be with the Vikes one more season after this one. He’s just sooo laid back that I think people will fall asleep during any head coaching interviews.

I already have a T-Jack Jersey, and I wear it with pride, unless he’s thrown an Int and then I just cry a little inside and wonder why he hasn’t given it to AP.
