Vikings War Cry

Purple Favre Jerseys, Anyone?

I have a feeling this Favre-to-Minnesota topic, no matter how far fetched and ridiculous, will not be going away soon. Yesterday, we discussed Peter King’s statement that the Vikings would be the most sensible team for Favre to sign with if he bid farewell to Green Bay, and today, Randball chimes in with this topic: If #4 signed with the Vikes, would you purchase a purple Favre jersey?

Can you imagine the amazing fight in the stands at the Vikings-Packers games between the really fat guy wearing a brand new Vikings #4 and the really drunk, really sad, really fat guy wearing the faded, threadbare green #4? It would be perhaps the greatest middle finger the state of Minnesota could possibly waggle eastward (since we don’t have any Super Bowl trophies to shake at them). Plus, he is a top ten all-time great quarterback. And it is nice to celebrate the greats that are attached to your favorite franchise, no matter how fleeting.

Eh, I don’t know if I’d be able to bring myself to buy a Favre Vikings jersey. Rand’s right — the “in your face” factor to Green Bay would make such a purchase tempting, but after spending virtually my entire life rooting against Favre, how easy would it be to suddenly jump aboard the Favre bandwagon and sport a #4 jersey at the Metrodome on Sundays?

As if it wasn’t enough to have King fuel speculation of Favre landing with a division foe of the Packers, NFL.com’s Pat Kirwan wrote today about the Favre circus and again raised the possibility of the quarterback winding up with another NFC North squad. Gee, thanks Pat. It’s just great to see so many NFL analysts jumping on the bandwagon of blindly speculating that Favre could end up with the Vikings or Bears.

OK…that’s more than enough Favre talk. Let’s move on, shall we?

*Ex-Viking defensive end Darrion Scott, who was arrested in late April for allegedly holding a dry cleaning bag over the head of his 2-year-old son, pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of child endangerment:

In his statement, Scott, who was a defensive lineman for the Vikings, said he was attempting to entertain the boy, identified in court as L.D., by putting the bag on his own head while dancing and pretending to be the “boogeyman.”

When the toddler became upset, Scott said he took the bag off his own head and placed it on his son’s head to show that it wouldn’t hurt him.

Since when does the Boogeyman wear a bag over his head and dance around? In addition to being a reckless and irresponsible parent, Darrion’s spreading misinformation to his child!

To be fair, if Scott’s story is true, then this whole thing wasn’t quite as serious as we initially thought. When I first heard the reports, I thought he was forcibly and maliciously holding the bag over his child’s head; perhaps that wasn’t quite the case. Still, he’s an irresponsible ass and fully deserves to be harshly punished for this. Regardless of whether or not he was playing around, you don’t need to be a parenting expert to know that putting a bag over a child’s head is a huge no-no.

*Pro Football Weekly reports that Mewelde Moore is off to an excellent start with his new team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, as he’s performed much better than expected at the team’s offseason workouts. Good for him. MeMo got the short end of the stick in Minnesota, so it’s great to hear that things are looking up for him.

My money is on Favre being fitted for a Royal Purple #4 jersey. The reason being that if Favre comes back he isn’t going to let some front office staff members dictate whether or not he lands on a winning squad or which division he can play in. The Vikings with Favre are vastly superior to the Packers with Favre. If the Packers have in fact moved beyond Favre and onto the Rodgers era, then look out Minnesota, we just may get a little more “country.”

Seems the good people over at SheVegas, Sheboygan (Wisconsin) are already seeing Favre in Purple. They posted a funny picture of Favre as a Viking with Bart Starr in tears.

So he can hold us hostage with his “I do not know if I want to retire” song every year? No tx.

TJack will be just fine, let the Puckers deal with this great (in his prime), yet egomaniac person.

Egomaniac is right. I am sick and tired of this primadonna’s retirement drama every year. Just be gone already and good riddance! The T-Jack era is here and we WILL go to the Super Bowl during it. Let somebody else deal with the Packer/Favre soap opera!!!!

I disagree about your statement regarding Darrion Scott. This was all reported to authorities by a girlfriend in the home while he was playing with his son. You have to take in to the consideration that the media is ruthless and hungry. They see something like this reported and they blow it way out of proportion. The fact that a former african-american pro athlete was playing and spending time with his son is something that should be praised based on it’s increased rarity over the last few decades than the fact that he may have endangered his child by placing a bag over his head for a few seconds.

I enjoy your block and you have many good points, but the fact you even gave this attention just feeds into the ridiculous media’s attention-whore complex.

Let’s keep the criticizm to sports athelete’s performances ON the field.

Theres no way Bret Favre will ever step onto the Vikings field again, either against the team or for the team,.hes history!
Besides, what makes anyone think he will do us any good anyway? We have an up and coming star working on the team as of this moment, yet everybody other than a Viking fan apparently thinks he wont do very good. All I can say is; you’ll see in the long run.
Now, back to the Cheese heads, there will not be a winning season for the Packrats what so ever this year and possibly even next year. Its not going to be in the cards & stars, no matter how many times the fans look to the guidance of their fortune tellers and gurus.
Since TJack is still young, he has a bright future here in Minn. He has the help of many of the best players in the league right here in Minn to grow with.
It never ends, the drama of the Packers loyal always has some sort of weasel spewing out from the mouth about a certain player on the team that should be anaylized, then when the Media gets ahold of it they clamor at the attention they could get from posting it in their newspaper or blogs and then every other clown in the cheese factory runs with it pretending to be a Viking fan.
So here it is, I personally discredit Bret Fart as a one hit wonder! His achievements came with longevity in the league and nothing more.

first off, i know it is very VERY doubtful favre returns to any team.as a viking fan, i dont understand why some viking fans wouldnt want favre on this team…he has obviously proven himself the past how many years to the vikes on their own turf he can win…now i am a fan of tjax, but he still has a little work ahead of him.the vikes have a studly D, impressive OLine, improved WR squad….favre would be the last piece of the puzzle to getting the vikes their first super bowl win.tjax would only benefit from working under a legend like favre…

I can’t disagree with what you said about the media, cmwernick. “Former Viking Endangers Son” is a tantalizing headline, and you could be absolutely right that it was sensationalized by the media reports to a certain degree. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if that was indeed the case. I’d just point out that the comments I made were totally based on Darrion’s statement…I understand what you’re getting at, but I think it’s fair game to criticize the man based off his version of the events.

I’m sorry to bust your bubble… but my wrangler jeans, they only go with green…

plus, the only way i’d leave my beloved city in Wisconsin is if a SUPERBOWL CONTENDER were to show interest… not a NFC North 2nd place at one game about .500 contender

Whatever, I have been a viks fan for years. T Jackson I am sorry to say will never take us to the big show, no disrespect but that’s the way it is. We do have some good up and coming receivers, and we do have the (in my opinion) best running back in the NFL. Hell yeah I’m all for Farve coming to the viks, who cares who he’s played for or with, His stats say who he his not the color of his jersey.
