The Price Is Wrong - Flyers Win Game 3
It was close, but they held on. With a league against them, they held on. They played not to lose in the third period, but they held on. The Flyers held on to win 3-2 in Game 3 thus subsequently taking a 2-1 lead in the best of 7 series. Erasing an early and, uncalled for, 5-on-3 penalty kill, the character of the 2007-08 Flyers shown throughout the contest.
Due to goals by Scottie Upshall, Mike Richards (sh) and RJ Umberger, Canadiens netminder, Carey Price, was knocked out of the game during the second intermission.
The Habs made it interesting, though, with two power play goals in the third from a 5-minute major and game misconduct on Flyer defenseman Derian Hatcher. Hatch was called for boarding Habs defenseman Francis Bouillon; he basically put the diminutive Bouillon through the glass. I would’ve expected a double minor for the gash above Bouillon’s eye, but the league doesn’t want the last Canadian team to go quietly, so the major was given.
Again, Flyer Martin Biron had over 30 saves and out-shined Price. Stealing goal after goal from the streaking Habs forwards, Biron is the sole reason for the Flyers 2-1 lead in this series. My favorite save was the poke check Biron put on Saku Koivu’s breakaway in the first period. He should’ve done that to Ovechkin in game 6.
The Canadiens had 20 more shots on goal than the Flyers and still lost - that can be demoralizing.
Price stole a page out of Alex Ovechkin’s book and took a dive when Steve Downie’s stick “touched” the blade of his skate in the first period. Downie received 2 for ’tripping’ and 2 for roughing - the Flyers were able to kill off that penalty.
With the snow melting in Montreal, there seems to be nothing to do for Canadien fans except trek down to Philly for some sight seeing. This is what happens when South Park makes fun of Canadians.
After disrespecting the American national anthem on Saturday night, the Habs were treated to some boo-ing of O’Canada on Monday night by the Flyers faithful. Both incidents aren’t right, but that’s what you get with class-less people, buddy.
I don’t want to hear about the refs. The Flyers made their own bed by taking dumb penalties.
In the third, the Flyers played not to make a mistake by not pressuring the Habs in the neutral zone and gliding to pucks, thus being out hustled. They were lucky to escape with the win, but lady luck is named Biron in this series.
The Flyers aren’t making any friends in the postseason and the hapless Habs are no exception. I think Guy Carbonneau’s head is going to implode from the pressure. Game 4 is Wednesday, the Flyers can take a commanding 3-games to one lead or they can let the Habs back into the series. Again, we’ll see which team shows up.

Great game. Its a shame Hatcher had to have a brain cramp, I would have loved to see Marty shut-out the Habknots.

Again, I am embarrassed by my fellow Hab fans. From booing the anthem (don’t they realize the Canadiens have as many Americans as Canadians on the team?) to rioting to embarrassing themselves in other cities, it just proves that playoff hockey leads to mass hysteria which leads to stupid, stupid decisions.
If only they could show the “restraint” (I put in quotes because it’s ridiculous that they even think about it) that all the other Montreal fans show instead of making people think we’re all like that.

Jared,
The same goes for Philly fans. There are plenty of morons to go around nd unfortunatly in this day and age they get all the press. I heard that the reality of the situation last night was a few scattered boos during the canadian anthem but when it was completed a rousing ovation. Too bad its always seems to have to come back to the fans. Lets talk hockey.

I’m going to make a rule: There should be no boo-ing of the national anthem of any Allied nation.
Canada is off limits, but China is fair game.

LOL, this has to be the most homer centric post I’ve read on these boards.
I came here hoping to be informed not converted to the Church of Latter Day Flyer Apologists.

“With a league against them,…” That line was stale in the 70’s. How long will Flyers fans keep trotting out that nonsense? Commissioner Bettman (an American) is about as anti-Canadian as you can get! Look what he did to Winnipeg, Quebec City, and more recently, Hamilton.
