Canes’ playoff hopes in Cats’ hands
Don’t be surprised if you see a few Olli Jokinen jerseys floating around the Charlotte area tonight. Because if the Panthers win, the Hurricanes are in. However, don’t be surprised if you see those jerseys go up in flames after the final horn sounds. Because if the Cats don’t win in regulation, the Canes’ season is over.
Currently sitting at a 92 point deadlock with Carolina, all the Capitals need is one point to leapfrog the Hurricanes and win the Southeast division. A Washington point would drop the Canes from the third seed to ninth, out of the playoffs by one point.
Personally, I hope the Panthers lose tonight. There seems to be a belief that if your team does not make the playoffs, you don’t deserve the Hart, no matter what you accomplished in the regular season. If Alexander Ovechkin, who has scored 65 goals this year, is not the league MVP, the hockey fan in me will die.
Not only that but ending the Hurricanes’ season just sounds like too much fun.
Seeing as how the Capitals have been playing out of their minds lately and seeing as how the Panthers haven’t won in regulation at the Verizon Center since November, I foresee a lot of tears falling in North Carolina tonight.
