Roberts signs with Lightning as well

In a somewhat surprising move, Gary Roberts has signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

According to TSN, Roberts agreed to terms on a one year contract that pays him a base salary of $1.25 million plus $10,000 for every game that he plays in the 2008-09 NHL regular season.  So if Roberts were to play in all 82 games, he would earn $820,000 in bonuses, which could make his total income for the season $2.07 million.

I say it was somewhat surprising in that I didn’t believe at this stage of his career that Roberts would play again for a team so far from his family in the Toronto area.
