Free Agent Frenzy Day: Penguins sign enforcer Eric Godard

UPDATE 3:53 PM:  Penguins have signed UFA enforcer Eric Godard.  Terms are unknown at this time.  This will probably signal the end of Georges Laraque’s tenure in Pittsburgh.

UPDATE 3:30 PM:  UFA goalie Ty Conklin has signed with the Red Wings, and UFA forward Adam Hall has signed with Tampa Bay.

UPDATE 2:17 PM:  Per Sportsnet.ca, the Penguins have offered a contract to UFA and former Pens captain Jaromir Jagr.

UPDATE 2:07 PM:  Per the PG, defenseman Mark Eaton was resigned by the Pens for two years, 2 million.

UPDATE 1:09 PM: Per the PG, the extension with Evgeni Malkin is basically complete.  5 years, 8.7 million per.

Hockeybuzz.com reports that the Penguins are in talks with UFA winger Kristian Huselius.

And heeeeeeeeeere we go.

Nothing substantial at all for Penguins fans since the trading of Ryan Malone and Gary Roberts to Tampa Bay.

According to the Trib’s Rob Rossi, Evgeni Malkin appears close to signing his big extension, although when that will specifically will happen is unknown.

Most of the Penguins-related rumors are being generated by The Insider on Pittsburgh Sports.  As I say with any rumor website, take it for what it’s worth.  I read all of the rumor websites, but don’t get too hung up on any of them (unless you charge people to read them, that is).  Anyway, they’re latest rumors say that RFA Marc-Andre Fleury is close to a multiple year deal worth approximately 5.1 million per year.  They also have been saying that Shero will make a big push for Marcus Naslund if he can’t sign Marian Hossa.

TSN just reported that Wild forward Brian Rolston will test free agency, and not accept the Lightning’s offer.  That is potentially good news for Shero, who could make a move towards Rolston if it appears that Hossa will go elsewhere.
