5. Vick house fails to sell. The 15-acre property that Michael Vick used as headquarters for the “Bad Newz Kennels” dogfighting operation failed to sell at an auction today, with the real estate developer of the property rejecting the final bid of $747,000. On the property, Vick and three others raised and trained pit bulls–some fights were also held on the second floor of the house. Vick sold the property for $450,000.

4. Rodriguez stays quiet on Michigan rumors. At a press conference today, West Virginia football coach Rich Rodriguez wouldn’t comment on rumors that he recently interviewed for the Michigan coaching job–Rodriguez told reporters, “It may be disappointing to you, but I am not going to talk about any rumors or innuendo or jobs or what else is floating out there.” Mountaineer players were instructed not to discuss the rumors with reporters. On Friday, the Sporting News reported that Rodriguez had traveled to Toledo to interview with Wolverine athletic director Bill Martin and university president Mary Sue Coleman.

3. Yankees still pursuing Santana? Yankees VP Hank Steinbrenner is still open to trading for Johan Santana, even after trade talks between New York and Minnesota broke down at baseball’s winter meetings. “The door’s not closed. I’m still thinking about it,” Steinbrenner told the New York Daily News. To get a deal done, the Yankees would likely need to part ways with pitcher Phil Hughes, and they’d also need to agree to a contract extension with Santana (the star pitcher is reportedly seeking a seven year contract for $140 million).

2. A-Rod: I’ve never been tempted to use steroids. In an interview that will air on this week’s “60 Minutes,” Alex Rodriguez told Katie Couric that he’s never used any illegal performance-enhancing drugs, and has never been tempted to do so. “I think baseball’s done a fine job of implementing some very strict rules,” Rodriguez told Couric in the interview. Following the release of the Mitchell Report, Jose Canseco told Fox Business, “I could not believe that [Alex Rodriguez’s] name was not in the report.”

1. Pettitte admits to using HGH in 2002. In a press release, Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte admitted to using HGH twice in 2002, in order to recover from an elbow injury. “If what I did was an error in judgment on my part, I apologize,” said Pettitte. “I accept responsibility for those two days…I felt an obligation to get back to my team as soon as possible. For this reason, and only this reason, for two days I tried human growth hormone.” Pettitte denied seeking a competitive advantage, saying, “I wasn’t looking for an edge. I was looking to heal.”
