Dirk Nowitzki Should Consider An Announcing Career

At first glance, this interview with the injured Dirk Nowitzki during the recent Mavs-Clippers game seemed doomed to become a cringe-worthy portion of the evening’s broadcast. Dirk’s earpiece wasn’t working properly, and he was having trouble communicating with the announcers. Then, however, things took a sudden turn for the better and television gold was created…out of nowhere, Dirk started to do the play-by-play work as the third quarter came to a close. Take a look (Dirk starts handling the announcing duties at the -1:30 mark):

I think we should make it official: “Short bus!” just became the coolest insult to dish out after someone misses a shot. Yes, it’s perhaps a bit on the politically incorrect side, but it’s also the funniest line I’ve heard from an “announcer” in quite some time.

Any ideas about which current players would make good announcers? Gilbert Arenas is the obvious choice (if you need proof, look no further than his blog — he’s ridiculously creative and would be an extremely entertaining announcer), and I’d love to see KG announce a game or two (he’s one of the biggest trash talkers in the league, and that would translate to some excellent play-by-play or commentary).
