Kansas Jayhawks vs. Memphis Tigers

So I got three quarters of the Final Four correct yet I completely whiffed on the finalists as well as the champion. As you can see I selected North Carolina to defeat Kansas as well as UCLA to take down Memphis with UNC as the overall champion. Aside from the complete embarrassment I feel at this point, I’m looking forward to watching tonight’s matchup between the Jayhawks and the Tigers.

The nation needs a competitive game and at this point these two teams have outclassed all other teams in Division I basketball. Memphis lost one game the entire season, yet nobody, NOBODY would have expected them to perform as well as they have. Free throw shooting used to be their Achilles’ heel and now it’s practically their strong suit. Kansas on the other hand is a team that started their season on a twenty game winning streak, stumbled losing three of their next seven games, and currently rides a twelve game winning streak. A nice, deep roster allows the Jayhawks to rotate in players that can contribute immediately and this has been a huge reason the team led the country in scoring margin at a rate of +21 points per game. But wait…isn’t depth Memphis’ strongest asset as well? Memphis has length and a whole lot of it. They overwhelmed Texas in the Elite Eight matchup with size that just could not be dealt with. Same thing happened with UCLA on Saturday.

John Calipari is coaching a dream team. End of story. If there’s ever an analysis done of teams that deserved-respect-but-got-absolutely-none-and-dominated-DI-basketball-at-the-same-time, Memphis would win hands down. It’s almost saddening how many people are rooting for Memphis to lose just so they could say ‘told you so…’ That’s why I’ll be rooting for the underdog tonight. Did I really just call Memphis the underdog? Sports are ridiculous sometimes.
