Kobe, LeBron, And Shoe Commercials

The video of Kobe Bryant jumping over a speeding Aston Martin turned out to be laden with special effects (no, not even Kobe can jump over a convertible that’s being driven straight at him), but the clip still proved to be a brilliant marketing tool for his new line of sneakers. The internet was buzzing with debate over whether or not the clip was ‘real’ or ‘fake,’ and in the end, the Nike-produced video provided tons of publicity for Kobe’s so-called ‘magic shoes.’

But that brings up this question: Was that the best shoe commercial you’ve seen? (even though it wasn’t a traditional advertisement, it should still be considered a commercial.) Personally, I still prefer Nike’s “Church of LeBron” ad:

“Can I get a layup?” Anyways, the Kobe video signals a shift in the way companies are marketing their products to younger demographics — this type of “viral marketing” through the internet can be far more effective than television advertising, if used correctly. And in this case, Nike and Kobe executed their marketing efforts to perfection.
