You’ve Gotta be Kidding: Clemens Linked to John Daly’s Ex

What’d I tell ya? On Tuesday, when news broke of Roger Clemens’ affair with country singer Mindy McCready, I wrote this exact sentence: “Christ, the Roger Clemens saga has a knack for always being able to get uglier.” Well, guess what? It just got uglier.

Several sources told the New York Daily News that Clemens once had a relationship with Paulette Dean Daly, the ex wife of golfer John Daly. Gee, I wonder if the Rocket is questioning his decision to enter a defamation legal battle with Brian McNamee?

The sources said Clemens, a married father of four, arranged trips to Anaheim Stadium for Daly - the latest woman to emerge as an alleged Rocket flame - to watch him pitch for the Yankees against the Angels. Sources also said he spent time with her in Palm Springs, Calif.

“Yeah, I’ve known Roger quite a while and we are friends,” Daly said yesterday.

She declined to elaborate on the nature of her relationship with the pitcher, but did not deny allegations from several sources that it was romantic and included financial support.

Good Lord, is there anyone Clemens hasn’t slept with? Let’s be honest; it’s only a matter of time before another mistress steps forward.

Anyone interested in starting a pool to wager on who the ensuing mistresses will be? I’ve got 15:1 odds on Anna Benson (wife of Kris) 25:1 odds on Joslyn Noel Morse (A-Rod’s favorite blonde), and 50:1 odds on Ashley Alexandra Dupré (Eliot Spitzer’s call girl).

As difficult as it is to watch the New York tabloids inflict irreparable damage to Clemens’ reputation, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone who’s feeling sorry for the Rocket. If he had fessed up when the Mitchell Report was unveiled and stopped short of doing battle with McNamee in the legal system, these skeletons would have never been revealed.

Most importantly, though, why the hell was Clemens cheating on his wife with a long line of women? Of all the reasons that Clemens is undeserving of our pity, that’s at the top of the list.

Indeed, the true losers in this saga are Roger’s wife, Debbie, and his four sons. Their seemingly clean-cut, family-oriented husband and father has been publicly revealed as an adulterer and overall dirtbag. The Rocket’s public persona was merely a facade; the real Roger Clemens has been revealed, and it’s not a pretty sight.
