Zaza Pachulia, Meet Kevin Garnett

If there was a single play on Sunday afternoon that represented the Atlanta Hawks’ performance in Game Seven of their series with the Boston Celtics, look no further than the video below.

In the clip, Zaza Pachulia of the Hawks gets acquainted with Kevin Garnett — and for fans in Atlanta, this flat-out nasty pick by KG perfectly symbolizes their squad’s complete collapse in their chance to shock the basketball world and upset the Celtics.

A little hard to watch, no? Indeed, for NBA fans such as myself who wanted to see the Hawks complete an unthinkable upset on Sunday, Game Seven of the Atlanta-Boston series was hardly a pretty site.

The Hawks’ youth proved to be their best asset in their home games during the series, but on Sunday, the Atlanta youngsters quickly became rattled by the onslaught they faced early in the game from the Celtics. The game was over by halftime, and the Celtics completed exactly what the doctor ordered — a dominant Game Seven performance that should at least give them SOME confidence as they prepare to face the Cleveland LeBrons.

Give ‘em some credit. After looking worn and amateurish on the defensive end during Game Six, the Celtics rebounded with one of the most suffocating defensive efforts I’ve seen in quite some time. Perhaps this series was the wakeup call Boston needed…

Still, I’m not going to kiss the feet of the Boston Celtics. Despite their dominant Game Seven performance, serious questions exist about their ability to win playoff games on the road. If they lost three road games against Atlanta, how can we expect them to beat Cleveland or Detroit on the road?

Coming into the playoffs, I thought Boston would have a pretty easy time winning three series against Eastern Conference foes (although I expected a potential Celtics-Pistons series to be pretty competitive)…clearly, though, Boston has a long, hard road ahead to become the East’s representative in the NBA Finals.

See the thing is they don’t have to win on the road if they win at home. Granted they would like to avoid 3 more game 7’s but if they win them who’s gonna complain. The ref’s dictated what was going to happen in ALT. They didn’t let boston play any defense while allowing ALT to do whatever they had to to get stops. hopefully the refs don’t bail out LBJ too much this series although that seems to be his go to move. Never seen such a skilled player complain so much in my life. The Queen - Crybaby James should be his official title from now on (or until he learns to be a man). Hopefully he waits to grow up a few more years.
