Video Picks: Johnny Damon, Charles Barkley
This is definitely one of the strangest plays you’ll ever see during a baseball game. In the third inning of Friday’s Yankees-Red Sox game, Johnny Damon seemed to grab and hang onto a Kevin Youkilis drive — but as it turns out, Damon failed to make the catch. The ball slipped out of his glove and sat on top of the left field wall…
An absolutely crazy play; of course, it’s fitting that this nearly-spectacular catch turned into a triple for Youkilis, given the Yankees’ struggles in a very tough AL East. The two runs driven in by the bizarre hit proved to be the difference in the game, as the Red Sox emerged with a 6-4 win.
Elsewhere, Charles Barkley’s a little bitter about the attention given to his gambling habits by the media. In an interview prior to the “Ante Up For Africa” poker tournament in Vegas last week, Chuck said that he’s “not allowed to gamble” (thanks to Deadspin for the video)…
Yes — surely this whole situation is the media’s fault and not his own. Loved Barkley as a player, love him even more as a personality…but he’s gotta start taking some more personal responsibility for this gambling issue/addiction/whatever.
