Favre Renege Saga Continues
Tonight at 10 PM a FOX interview will air with Brett Favre interviewed by Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren with regard to his recent retirement re-nig. According to this ESPN article, Favre is quoted saying: “Don’t make up a lot of stuff or give half of the truth.” The background behind the comment stems from recent ongoing disputes with the Green Bay Packer front office with respect to whether or not Favre returns to the Pack or gets released from the team.
I’m getting more and more annoyed with players announcing “retirements” and then deciding at a future date that he/she has an itch to return to the game. I’m not saying that Favre’s legacy will be tainted by this decision to return to the game but I for one will admit that I don’t think of Favre’s character as highly. When I watched his retirement press conference I watched a man battling with himself trying to make the right choice on whether or not to quit or continue playing. I sympathized with him. I understood his pain. It was along the lines of deciding whether or not to break up with a spouse. Is this really the time? Should I wait and see if things can’t be worked out? Etc. etc. etc. He even shed some tears and I felt terrible for him. He made his decision publicly known. If he wasn’t ready to make that decision then why on Earth did he try to?
So how exactly can Favre blame the Packer front office for “(making) up a lot of stuff or (giving) half of the truth,” when in reality he did the same? He thought he was ready to make a decision he had no business deciding that quickly after the end of the season (try giving it more than a month Brett to see where your heart’s really at). Now he’s caught in a terrible situation where Packer fans are most likely going to be devastated when Favre dons a jersey that is not white and green. In my opinion, a situation that could have been avoided; should have been avoided. Now this situation is turning into a nuance.
