Fantasy football: Week eleven position rankings

QUARTERBACK

1. Drew Brees at Kansas City Chiefs - The Chiefs have given up 27 points and almost 234 passing yards per game. The Saints have had trouble winning games, but they usually post big numbers.
2. Jay Cutler at Atlanta Falcons - The Falcons have the 21st-ranked passing defense in the league and, despite Cutler's inconsistency this season, this is a mismatch.
3. Kurt Warner at Seattle Seahawks - The Seahawks have the second-worst pass defense in the NFL and Kurt Warner is en fuego. Still, Qwest Field in Seattle is a tough place to play.
4. Peyton Manning vs. Houston - He gets to play at home this week and the Texans have allowed 15 passing touchdowns, which ties them for fourth-worst in the NFL.
5. Matt Ryan vs. Denver - As terrific as the Broncos' aerial offense is, their defense is awful. They only have three interceptions on the year and have given up almost 243 passing yards per game.

RUNNING BACK

1. Michael Turner vs. Denver Broncos - The third-leading rusher in the NFL gets to face the 27th-ranked rushing defense at home. These are the kinds of games in which Turner has excelled and I am expecting at least 100 yards and maybe two touchdowns.
2. Brian Westbrook at Cincinnati Bengals - The Eagles are coming off a tough showdown with the Giants last week and they get to face a defense that has allowed 138 yards per game and 12 rushing touchdowns. Westbrook has practiced fully this week and looks relatively healthy.
3. Frank Gore vs. St. Louis Rams - After consecutive victories against the Cowboys and Redskins, the real Rams team has resurfaced recently. Gore has missed some practice this week with a sore neck, but he expects to play Sunday. Monitor the situation though.
4. Adrian Peterson at Tampa Bay Buccaneers - This pick makes me nervous because the Bucs have the 11-ranked rushing defense in the league and have only allowed ONE rushing touchdown this year. But it's Adrian Peterson.
5. Marshawn Lynch vs. Cleveland Browns - I realize that he has been disappointing this season, but Lynch seems poised for his first 100-yard game of the year against the 26th-ranked rushing defense in the league.

WIDE RECEIVER

1. Larry Fitzgerald at Seattle Seahawks - I just could not resist topping this list with the most consistent WR performer of the season thus far. Seattle cannot cover anyone and now they have two studs to contain. Speaking of which...
2. Anquan Boldin at Seattle Seahawks - This guy is amazing and he is a must-start week in and week out. It does not hurt that the Seattle pass defense is close to last in the league.
3. Roddy White vs. Denver Broncos - Matt Ryan's favorite target has no competition for the top receiver slot in the Falcons' scheme. This game will be a shootout and White will get at least one TD.
4. Brandon Marshall at Atlanta Falcons - Much like Roddy White's situation, except for the fact that Jay Cutler has a few more likely targets. Marshall is the man though.
5. Steve Smith vs. Detroit Lions - We hardly need to even mention how bad Detroit is, but this should be a big week for one of the top receiver talents in the NFL.

TIGHT END

1. Tony Gonzalez vs. New Orleans Saints - Gonzalez earns the top spot this week because of his incredible game in week ten and because his opponent this week is terrible against the pass.
2. Jason Witten at Washington Redskins - No one is sure how Tony Romo will play in his return from injury this week, but you know that he will find a way to get the ball to Witten. He is still battling with cracked ribs though.
3. Kellen Winslow at Buffalo Bills - New quarterback Brady Quinn quickly showed that he loves getting the ball to Winslow. Look for more against the Bills' mediocre pass defense.
4. Antonio Gates at Pittsburgh Steelers - Gates has been one of the best TEs all season, but facing the fearsome Steel Curtain this week will do him no favors.
5. Chris Cooley vs. Dallas Cowboys - Cooley is second among tight ends with 48 receptions, but he has only found the end zone once. He remains a must-start.

KICKER

1. Matt Prater at Atlanta Falcons - It is good to have kickers on high-scoring teams and this game should be a barn burner. It's also inside the Georgia Dome.
2. Nick Folk at Washinton Redskins - Folk's leg could get a workout in this tough divisional rivalry. The weather in Landover, Maryland remains a question mark though; the forecast indicates that it could be windy.
3. John Carney at Baltimore Ravens - If the Ravens defense brings their A-game, the Giants could be forced into kicking a lot of field goals in this defensive slugfest.
4. Rob Bironas at Jacksonville Jaguars - I ranked Bironas number one last week and he proceeded to kick zero field goals. But he remains on a team with a less than amazing offense.
5. Adam Vinatieri vs Houston Texans - Whether it is in the form of extra points or field goals, Vinatieri posts at least five fantasy points this week at home.

DEFENSE / SPECIAL TEAMS

1. Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars - I am in love with the Titans D this year and I see no reason to call off the crush this week. The Jags offense is ranked 18th in the NFL.
2. Carolina Panthers vs. Detroit Lions - The only team that came close to moving Tennessee out of the top spot is the Panthers. They get the hapless Lions at home and it will not be pretty.
3. Philadelphia Eagles at Cincinnati Bengals - The Eagles get to play the worst offense in the NFL this week. This is an easy call.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers vs. San Diego Chargers - The Chargers again have to travel to the Eastern time zone, but at least this week's game is on the late afternoon schedule. If I owned the Steelers D I would be a little nervous about this matchup.
5. New York Giants vs. Baltimore Ravens - Facing off against the 17th-ranked Ravens offense in their home stadium, the Giants will redeem themselves for a subpar defensive performance in week ten.
