Alan Smodic Reacts to Rangers SS Michael Young's Refusal to Cooperate
With news out of Dallas that Texas Rangers shortstop Michael Young is not only unwilling to play third base in 2009, but also wants to be traded, MLB Outsider's Alan Smodic jumped on the phone Tuesday with MVN Radio to weigh in on Texas' options and Young's alleged tenacity.
Smodic and host Brandon Rosage discuss the 32-year-old Rangers star's perspective on a perpetually losing ballclub, despite signing a five-year, $80-million extension in the spring of 2007. They also look at touted 20-year-old prospect Elvis Andrus and whether he's a smart pick for shortstop after being acquired in the 2007 Mark Teixeira deal.
The discussion serves as a companion to Smodic's MLB Outsider editorial "Rangers/Young Mishandling the Entire Situation."

Franchising Cassel is good business
Whether or not to franchise Matt Cassel boils down to what's good business and what makes the most sense for the Patriots organization. Let's not forget, in the business of the NFL, the players are resources, or commodities, and they are signed and released based on their value, and rarely do teams make emotional decisions about keeping or releasing players.More of the "Best of MVN"
