Best of MVN: Should the Pats Tag Matt Cassel?

On weekdays we highlight posts from Most Valuable Network that are considered to be a cut above the rest. This work is the best of MVN, the posts that made us think -- and we want to make sure you see it, too. Consider nominating a post for recognition via e-mail.
Rickey Henderson received 94.8 percent of the vote from the Baseball Writers' Association of America, and as such, he'll join fellow Hall of Famer Jim Rice at an induction ceremony in Cooperstown in July. Jeff Kallman notes that the prolific base stealer's career spanned the administrations of five United States presidents.
From MVN's Community:
The Man of Steal's career began during the Carter Administration, ended during the Bush II Administration, and covered the Reagan, Bush I, and Clinton Administrations. It's probably the last thing you'd think about asking of any baseball player, never mind a Hall of Famer, but how many other players played during five presidencies or more?

Amar Panchmatia sets out to examine a SportsCenter anchor's contention that "It seems like the Cavs are on a mission to wear 82 different uniforms this year." How many alternate jerseys does Cleveland have at its disposal, and what are the remaining possibilities?
From Cavalier Attitude:
If you think that this is an exaggeration of exactly what we have to look forward to, don't. This Cavs marketing department is pulling out all the stops, and if it doesn't stop at made-up retro jerseys, then it sure as hell won't stop at anything.

The Kansas City Chiefs' play improved with Tyler Thigpen under center, but Jon Yoon won't yet anoint Thigpen as quarterback of the future. Should Kansas City use its third overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft to acquire competition?
From Home of the Chiefs:
The Chiefs need to hedge their bets. They need to commit to fully developing and coaching Tyler Thigpen in the offseason, but they also need to bring in a top-flight quarterback to compete. That probably means using their top pick in the draft. ... That's a safe strategy, I know, but I have always believed that the best solution for most personnel problems is to open up competition for everybody and letting the best man win.

The New England Patriots are faced with the opposite situation: What should the team do with two Pro Bowl-caliber quarterbacks? Jamie believes franchising Cassel is good business, while Beth wonders if the team shouldn't have more faith in Tom Brady.
From The Patriot Act:
Cassel will undoubtedly command a princely contract from someone in the NFL. If the Patriots hope to keep their proven backup at the ready while Tom Brady makes his return next year, their only choice will be to franchise Cassel, to prevent other teams from being able to make him offers.

Oleanders and Morning Glories
Daric Barton for Nick Johnson
Why would the A's even think about this deal? Because Nick Johnson, when healthy, is the type of player Daric Barton dreams of becoming. Nick hits for high average, walks a ton, and hits for decent mid-level power. He also is a great fielder. At the plate, Daric looks to potentially be the same type of player average- and OBP-wise, though likely won't ever develop the power that Nick has.More of the "Best of MVN"
