Acie Law is best available?
With the Sixers currently sitting at the 12th pick, the question begs to be asked - who would be the best available player at that spot? The keeper of that pick hopes for a top ten slider. Jeff Green, Al Thornton, and Corey Brewer are high on the list. Spencer Hawes, Julian Wright, and Joakim Noah are also projected in the ball park. However, the best player available, if he was still on the board, is clearly Texas A&M's sensational point guard - Acie Law IV.
Law shot an amazing 50% from the field in his senior season and better than 45% from beyond the arc. He did so while averaging 18 points per game for a defensive-minded team. Law's most impressive games came against interstate rival Texas. He had 21 points and 15 assists in one game and scored 33 points in another.
Law's greatest quality is his ability to get a bucket when his team needs it. That game changing ability will translate into stardom in the NBA. Think of Tony Parker with an outside shot. I don't care what Jeff Van Gundy or Mark Jackson says, Parker still isn't a consistent threat from outside. Law is money from all over the court. While he's not as fast as Parker, he can still get in the lane at will and make things happen. He's also a master of getting the angle on his defender, which is Parker's bread and butter.
Will Law impress the Sixers as much as he's impressed me? Today, he gets his chance. Law is one of four players to work out today with the Sixers. Also joining him are Aaron Brooks, Coby Karl, and Sun Yue. Brooks is a potential selection at 38 and he possesses lightning quick speed and a decent outside shot. Unfortunately, Brooks is also only 5'11". That wasn't a problem for Jameer Nelson though, so he might be a great option for backup guard should the Sixers decide to make a trade and deal either Andre Miller or Louis Williams.
Either way, the Sixers should be looking at a backcourt player in addition to help on the frontline. Andre Miller becomes a free agent after next season and it's unknown if Louis Williams can become the answer. Willie Green kills the Sixers with too many isolation plays and little defensive resistance. If the Sixers don't make a move with their backcourt this year, they'll really be in trouble come next offseason. There were rumors that the Hawks made Law a promise at 11 since he backed out of his workout with the Hornets yesterday, but Law made good on his workout today with the Sixers. The Hornets hold the 13th pick in the draft. Taking Law at 12 would answer a lot of questions.

I really like the idea of gatting Acie Law for the Sixers. It seems to me that with Andre Miller being a free agent after this upcoming season it would make sense to use him and either Korver or Hunter and possibly Green to try to trade up. That way the sixers could use their first two picks to get a point guard for the future and a solid big man. Then if Korver was traded they could hope to snag Fernandez from Spain or that Italian shapshooter, Mario What's-his-name, with the 21st pick to try and pick up some of the scoring slack.
P.S. Although a big basketball fan I'm not really familiar with the ins and outs of trades, contracts, etc. So my suggestion could be totally off base.

You're a little all over the map, Ben. Kinda like me, I guess. I don't think you can honest consider any big man not named Oden "solid". Therefore, I'd go for solid with Law or Green. The sharpshooter is Belinelli. Our Magic writer scouted him in Italy:

I'd replace Korver in your trade talks with Carney. He's not going to get any better. Korver, on the other hand, is a good sixth man. You can use the 21st pick for a foreign talent like Fernandez or Splitter, neither of whom will come over from Europe next season.

I certainly get the impression that Miller is not a part of the Sixer's long term plans presummably because of his age. So I was just thinking along the lines of using his current value to get a younger PG. Aside from getting Law through the draft though I don't know what other possibilities are out there.
As for Korver I'm definitely a fan but he can tend to disappear when the other team throws a good defender at him (however, I suppose that does mean one less good defender to cover someone else.) It seems to me it's too soon to write off Carney. After all he's only been in the league for one year and has shown some flashes. But I guess time will tell.
Also I'm pretty sure I saw some mock drafts in which Fernandez was ranked ahead of Belinelli.
Whatever happens I think King and Co. have put themselvess in a good position. This week should be interesting and I'm looking forward to an exciting season with a few new faces.

are you already giving up on Carney?
pretty surprising. I think this guy has some game and that we would regret trading him, kinda like we did with Raja Bell, Barnes etc
it's true he has to become better and this summer will be very important for him
with 3-4 rookies coming in, he must feel some pressure, let's see how he will react

Ya, I've given up on him already. If we didn't have Korver, I'd still give him a shot. I'll admit it is premature, but even for a rookie, he doesn't do the little things necessary to stick around. He's not first on my trading block, however. That would be Willie Green. I love Willie as a person, but he's too inconsistent a player. I think he'd be better off getting more experience elsewhere (say, Milwaukee?).
