Carney and Booth Out, Brand In?
That would be the ideal blueprint for the Sixers to steal Elton Brand away from south L.A. Sources say that the Philadelphia 76ers have turned from longshot to #2 on the list in the Brand sweepstakes due to a possible deal. ESPN reports that the Sixers are close to dealing Rodney Carney and Calvin Booth to Minnesota. Since Philadelphia is under the cap, they can offer players and not receive anything in return to increase their spending money. Stealing a restricted free-agent, like Josh Smith, is almost impossible so Philly is back to focusing on their #1 option.
If the trade was to go down, the Sixers would have close to $15 million to offer Elton in his first year with increases that could total close to $90 million. That is about the same number Golden State threw out and about 5-10 million more than what L.A has to put on the table. The Clippers, under the impression that EB would take a paycut after acquiring Baron Davis, don' t have the money that Golden State and Philly possesses to make a counter offer.
This deal would definitely mean more moves are on the way. I thought Rodney Carney showed signs of being a nice player off of the bench late in the season but obviously Stefanski thinks he's replaceable. In the article is says that Elton would likely come to Philly rather than Golden State if L.A doesn't work out. That's understandable since the Warriors are currently the worst team of the three.
The NBA announces the league's official salary cap for all teams today and free-agents are able to sign the dotted-line starting tomorrow. So now it comes down to a decision whether Elton wants to stay in Hollywood, go for the money or go to a possible eastern conference contender.
Update: ESPN's Marc Stein is reporting that the Sixers have went from darkhorse to favorites to land Elton Brand after the clock strikes 12 tonight and free-agent signing can begin. A source says the Elton wants to play East. The trade will be official tomorrow and Elton will probably receive a offer shortly after. A complete stab-in-the-back to L.A if he comes to Philly but who cares. I might start a Ed Stefanski fan club.
Plus, Check out Recliner GM's post on a possible Nenad Kristic signing. If Josh Smith and Elton Brand remain with their current squads then he may be the best place to put our money.

Philly is no better than the Warriors. are you kidding? 42 40 in a way better conference. Eastern conference sucks. warriors would have been 3 seed in the east.
